Many years ago we were given a small clump of Algerian Winter Iris by a very kind person who was helping us through health problems. The clump has become clumps and this year it is flowering profusely and when we look out on the flowers we are always reminded of that gift and all the help we were given.

Aren't they lovely, On the Levels? They flower at a time of year when colour is desperately needed, don't need much if any maintenance and divide well. This is a photo of 'Walter Butt' from January this year. He's flowering again now. Will try to get a photo of the deep blue one tomorrow!

Not much to look at and not a recent photo, but my Lonicera fragrantissima is filling the area near my front gate with scent in the last few days! It's quite comical watching so many people walk by and try to figure out where the fragrance is emanating from. :heehee: Love this plant and suspect many are put off from growing it because of its eventual size, but I've found that planted by a fence and trimmed a couple of times a year it only extends a couple of feet from it.

We've got a winter Lonicera on the side of rickety steps Half-way up our garden next to a lovely Acer. No flowers yet but when nothing else is doing in the winter a walk up the garden to take in the perfume of the flowers is something else. I pick some and put them in a small glass pot and bring in and put on the kitchen table, Lovely

I've never actually tried bringing them indoors to enjoy the fragrance @Valleysgirl, I'll have to give that a go this year! :)

Ooh wonderful, @On the Levels, do you feed it alot or prune it? I noticed the buds developing in late summer. I think it began flowering in October last year, but this year was November. I don't feed it as such, but it benefits from my garden compost and general mulches. I don't prune it, either.

@ClematisDbee we do nothing! We are one of those gardeners that don't follow the "rules". It was planted and left to what it wanted to do many many years ago and has done what the label says. It continues to flourish with its evergreen leaves and then the flowers. As I said it seems as though it has flowered most of this year. Amazing. And when you look into the flowers they are superb.
