After a weeks holiday in july I returned to find all me sweet peas had gone to seed, which i collected alot of this week ( while it's dry). my problem is that I'm unsure of which of the seeds to keep to sow next year, they're all different sizes, some smooth, some wrinkled, some split and even have ones shooting, lol.

Does anyone know which ones will be best to keep??, I don't want to throw away ones that will shoot, there's hundreds (and still some on the plants) so if anyone want's some let me know.

    Jo :)

    Sweetpea,

I am by no means knowledgeable about this, and I do hope you won`t mind me just pushing a little question onto this, but do you have to freeze them first? And I would love some seeds if its not too cheeky to ask. I have to start doing something to earn my keep on this forum, I have found some extremely kind people here, and must start to repay their generosity.

    Hi claire.

Good question about the freezing, but I'm afraid I don't know thw answer to that one either:lollol:

If you send me a private message with an address I'll be able to post you some when they're all sorted, the variaties are all mixed up but I read that they'll probably be something different anyway.

    Jo :)

Forget the split ones and the shooting ones unless you plant them now. Next month is usually the month to sew for the earliest flowerings. No need to freeze sweet pea seeds

Yes but are you going to overwinter them,EG are you going to sew in October.

How many plants do you want

Would you consider buying new seeds

I'll over winter some and sew in spring too. I'll grow as many as my garden can take.
Plus I give then to family and friends.
I have many variaties and buy about 3 new ones each year.

I just don't like throwing away good seeds.

If the seeds are spourting I don't see no problem about potting them on now I mean I would normally sow my seeds next month so you will only be a few weeks earlier than normal.
All you have to remember is that they need to be undercover i.e. in a greenhouse, cold frame or even a lowly window sill just remember to pinch them out.
    Good luck. :wink:Hel.xxx.
