In most cases the town is moving to the country side.
Large modern houses being built on mass for people moving out of the cities its not really about someone buying the odd country cottage although that does happen.

Another thing that apparently happens around here when new houses are built is that London boroughs buy them up to house there homeless or problem tenants.

    It all pushes up prices.

Rent price's in the countryside are very high some here are over £1800 a month cashing in, we are living on less than some one renting, some one i know who moved to the countryside with her partner who is from the countryside said nothing is open 24 hours matter of fact there is 1 shop that still closes wednesday afternoons
Alot of people i see coming to the countryside think it's nice but as said wait till the winter months and it's a different story and some don't like what goes on in the countryside and try to change it (yes somethings do need chaging but will be very hard to do)

I grew up on the coast and quite enjoyed the stormy weather :)

Growing up with lively weather is different to suddenly discovering it when you have sunk your retirement funds and hopes into a new place. ;)

The flip side is you see a nice coastal house in the winter, enjoy the peace and quiet, then discover in the summer you can't move for tourists.

So … in June, I had my 25-yr old, in perfect working order, boiler replaced at vast expense. Today … my new one breaks down. :gaah: Now, I realise the universe is not picking on me personally, but why is it these things happen (a) just before Xmas and (b) early in the w’end meaning there is the longest possible delay before getting hold of the engineer.

On one of the programmes where people are looking to move to the countryside, a woman wanted a property in Pembrokeshire despite never having been there. After seeing the properties she changed her mind, saying the area was too remote and didn't have good transport links. I wonder if she ever considered doing a bit of research before wasting everybody's time. I suppose she got a few nights in a nice hotel at the programme makers expense.

This is what worries me, the old boilers seem to be bomb proof and just chug along, most of those around here that have had new "efficient" boilers fitted in the last few years seem to have a heating van parked outside whenever we get a cold spell.

Maybe she was just a Wannabee Celeb with no intention of moving to Pembs. and the programme makers just fell for it ? No idea how much research the programme producers do for this sort of stuff but if it gets viewers, they'll be happy enough I suppose.
If Mr. Starmer has his way, I'd be surprised if there will be any areas which could be termed "remote" in many senses of the word.

I am seriously peeved. I had the next few days timetabled quite tightly, and making room for a gas engineer appt was not in the plan, assuming he is not inundated with people wanting his services and can actually come, of course.

Ah the good spanking new Combi Boilers, The ones you have to run a gallon of water out of the tap before the hot water arrives, Then when the outside night temperature drops to freezing, the condensate water outflow freezes at the exit pipe and the boiler shuts down
Until you pay a plumber £75 to run a blowlamp over the end of the pipe to defrost it, or wait a couple of days until nature defrosts it WONDERFUL

Strictly come dancing and another tv program called Michael in the Middle (or something) which I've never heard of, are featured on the National BBC News website. Surely there are better things to report on.
