The billionaire has close business links with Russia apparently. It will be a disaster and a few yrs down the line the taxpayer will doubtless have to pick up the pieces. You don’t become a billionaire by caring about those you crush in your wake.

Words fail me. The derisory amount of the proposed compensation was insult enough, but on a matter of principle, knowing that the people responsible for 6 long years of us living well below the breadline have got off Scot-free and that this government has the arrogance to ignore the Parliamentary Ombudsman's recommendations, well roll on the next General Election!

Either that or the people they employ might have to start "working", I envisage big clashes with the unions.

While The Royal Mail may not be up to the standard it used to be, I am personally furious that the sale is going ahead. When I started running my mail order business for reasons I won’t bore folk with, I had to use Securicor in my first year of trading, they all but ruined my business as they were fine delivering to people in large towns and cities and completely diabolical at delivering to out of the way places. People were getting their smoked salmon delivered well into January when it was despatched around about 17th December. Yes smoked salmon has a reasonable self life but…….
The following year I was able to use The Royal Mail. I had precisely 1 lost parcel out of about 800 I sent out. For the many years I ran my business I received superb service. Mail services in many foreign countries are absolutely terrible from a non delivery and theft point of view. So bad I stopped sending to USA, Italy,Greece, Spain, Portugal, Russia and Bulgaria.
There must be some people getting huge payouts over this take over and it is definitely not a bonanza for minor shareholders as I am.
The agreed sale price of the shares is derisory and I do not believe the promises being made, as others have said already you are unlikely to be an archangel Gabriel type having made a fortune in a similar manner to the Russian oligarchs.
I still am loathed to use any of the parcel delivery companies over The Royal Mail. Ok it is now IDS. Still waiting for delivery of a parcel despatched on 5th December via Evri. The tracking information says they tried delivering in 8th December …. Bull you know what! I was at home all day.

Just another British company sold abroad, its the end of a tradition but I still think its badly run and probably overstaffed.
They have not altered their working, IMO, since they were privatised.

To be fair Labour never pledged to pay out the Waspis during the election. It was only the Lib Dems who had that in their manifesto.

I've been thinking exactly the same - they are going for the 'scorched earth' approach. It would seem that they are well aware that folks have had enough of the "uniparty" between Labour and the Tories and they are both likely to have a really hard time (at best) at the next election, so they are filing their snouts while they can and will swan off into the sunset with their gold-plated pensions and sod the rest of us.

They also promised not to raise taxes for working people or NI and they've already done both. Their manifesto is not even fit for wiping your arse.

I think when the labour party seen they were in a strong position to win the GE, they then backed down on their pledge to support WASPIs.

Starmer pledged his support to WASPIs at the Scottish labour party conference in 2022. He also spoke on radio about his pledge to support them and to have something in place in their manifesto for the next GE.

He clearly states the injustice and support to the campaign and needs to do something about it should he become Prime Minister

Helen Jones - Labour Party Leader, Sir Keir Starmer, in conversation with Claire Hamilton 25 07 22 - BBC Sounds

Also Rachel Reeves fully supported the WASPi campaign in 2020

If I were Starmer I would wear a Kevlar Cod Piece if walking past any WASPI's
Reeves I believe may get away with a Kevlar crash helmet

Are any of us surprised that what was promised in the run-up to an election is conveniently forgotten once they're in power? No doubt they have weighed up the cost of placating a 'few' elderly women and ignoring the Ombudsman's recommendation and decided they can get away with it. Perhaps they're not taking into account the fact that a lot of those women have family and friends of voting age who won't forget.....
But hey, plenty of time for the renewed sugar and syrup promises just before the next GE.

I think that there are quite a few Labour MPs, just as there are Tories and LibDems who genuinely do support us, but that counts for nothing when it comes to Government policy.
