Vintage Christmas Decorations

It always makes me smile to think that mid 20th century is now considered vintage. To me it's the kind of stuff that was in people's houses when I was a youngster, often older people's houses (ie Granny's old tat!). I'm sure my Nan had a Christmas wreath something like the one linked.

 

I was looking at poinsettias the other day and realized that if I can find a coleus that is a nice red shade, that would make a really smashing Christmas plant for my foyer area. I'll have to make a point of writing reminder notes to myself for this type of "purpose" gardening.

 

Never been that keen on coleus @CanadianLori but there are one or two modern varieties that have caught my eye recently. eg Chocolate covered cherry which would look fab with my cherry red cannas and a purple leaved plant. The supplier says it can cope in sun too.

 

@Obelix-Vendée I thought a sunny location was proper. I've always frown mine in full sun and had no early deaths so far. I guess I've just been lucky .

I still have a few hand knit mini stockings from when my boys were small. Some 50 years ago.

 

I've got a few decorations from when I was little, they're a bit worn to say the least and I don't put them up any more, but I will always keep them

 

Do you use tinsel at all?

 

No tinsel here. I like it but it seems to be irresistible to cats, and cleaning up tinselly cat sick isn't fun (and it could be an expensive trip to the vets if they ate some and didn't bring it up).

 

Never @LouisFerdinand It's horrendous for pets as well as the environment.

The tinsel is heavy duty from the 1970s. I wore it to a student party.
