Lucky you, Noisette. I live in Dordogne, we don't have home rubbish collections anymore. We have to take our rubbish to the village bin and for general rubbish insert a card into the bin to open it, the opening is very stiff. The recycling doesn't have a card but there are metal bars on the opening to stop you putting full bin bags in so it all has to be carefully tipped in without the bag. Over Christmas and New Year the bin men didn't come and full bags were lying about and being attacked by wild life. I don't know how people with mobility problems cope.

Yes I've been following the stories of the deroulement elsewhere in France. It's shocking! We're in the transitional phase whereby we'll end up paying more but at least can control how many collections will be made per year. It means that our little ordures ménageres black bin will be filled with smelly, maggotty bags for 5 or 6 weeks at a time before being emptied. How I feel for the binmen! At least the fortnightly recycling collection will stay the same.

        From the BBC website

With flu cases continuing to rise and the cold weather exasperating health conditions, NHS England medical director Prof Sir Stephen Powis has warned hospitals are under "exceptional pressure" and facing "mammoth demand".

        Surely they mean exacerbating!

          The exasperation is exacerbated, too.

Yesterday Space X had a launch go badly wrong and a spokesman said it had undergone a "rapid unscheduled disassembly". No it hadn't; it had flipping well blown up, disrupting air traffic in the
vicinity and dropping debris all around.

'Early doors' ... I've never heard that until recently but now I'm hearing it all the time. What have doors got to do with anything

@Michael Hewett , I heard that expression a lot when I was growing up( in Lancashire). A very well used “ expression”.

Definitely a South Yorkshire saying too. I love it, but then it reminds me of my childhood.

According to the OED its first recorded use was in the Liverpool Mercury in 1877.

It seems to be a northern England term then. I'd never heard of it until last year.

I think it was explained on here a few weeks ago. 'Early doors' - the regulars who form an orderly queue outside the doors of pubs, waiting for them to open at 17.30 ( pre 1988 when licensing laws were changed to allow pubs to stay open all day ). Very northern expression.

'See you early doors?' - therefore meant 'See you at the pub at 17.30' !

Just back from the hospital, used the WC and the sign on the door said Gents, Bab; the door opposite had Women, Bab. What's with Bab? It's Baby.
No wonder the NHS is a mess.

Northerners must be very civilised in Scotland they were banging on the pub doors at 5 to be let in pre 1998. Then there was the rush to the bar when the landlord shouted last orders at 21.50 if there was no lock in.
