Afternoon all. Happy Birthday to Possum - bread and butter pud, yummmmmm!

Weather here has been pretty awful for the past week with temps rarely getting more than a degree or two above freezing during the day and a foggy mist (called Dragon's breath in Wales) adding to the gloom on a daily basis.

Sitting here at my small desk, I can look sideways out of the window and see several small ponies slowly grazing their way up from the far fields to the fence nearest to 'home' (a field away). They are listening for the quad to start up which means that their daily quota of hay is on the way. As soon as they hear the quad engine they will rush across to gather by their field gate joined by the remainder of the small herd who have, by now, scampered to join them. But daughter has them fooled! Instead of trying to squeeze her way through a gateway with a hoard of excited ponies, she opens and drives through a second gate into the second field that they also have the use of, spreading the hay out next to the shelter belt of the trees/hedging.

This causes a huge amount of excitement amongst the herd who then turn tail and stream back over the 'horizon' to the bottom corner of the field they are in, to fly through the open gateway that divides their two fields, thence to scamper up the second field to where the hay has been spread. But do they stop and eat? Oh no! Having got themselves all stirred up, they then proceed to go quite mad, racing about, bucking and kicking just for the fun of it. It is a joy to see them, looking and feeling so good, especially as there are a couple of them already in their early 20's and the rest well into their teens, the youngest being 11 or 12 this year. All are home bred over the years and will live their lives out with us here, bless them.

Ooops, seem to have written yet another 'epistle'! Hope you all have a good week whatever you plan to do with it.

Good afternoon all. Such a delight reading your post @Anna42 and you created a wonderful picture of those excited ponies in the fields. It reminded me of the way cows, overwintered indoors, react the first time to being released into the pastures in Spring. They go slightly bonkers too.

I am going to sign out for today. Off to get my brain in gear for tonight. I have a feeling I could be Quiz Meister tonight. Match is at home tonight and we take turns. I don't mind at all - takes me back to my working days. I'll see you all tomorrow. Hope @Obelix-Vendée's daughter, Possum, enjoys her birthday tea.

It sounds a super birthday meal @Obelix-Vendée
          Happy birthday to Possum.
Love the description of the ponies @Anna42
I have been a bit of a Walley today - forgot to order a dessert for tonight from Tesco. Cue necessity being the Ma of invention...I opened a jar of Amarene cherries and hub assembled a crumble topping. I have ice cream to have with it.
Good luck with the quiz @Ladybird4

What a lovely post, @Anna42! I can just picture the ponies frolicking around! Talking of pictures, the dog picture was lovely, sorry, can’t remember who painted it, and couldn’t find it when I went back through the thread.
Happy birthday to Possum, the meal sounds delicious. As does the cherry crumble and ice cream, @Penny_Forthem.
That’s all cheered me up, and I needed it. Apparently it’s Blue Monday, and the most depressing day of the year, (and this year in particular!)
We headed out to buy yet another bathroom light, our most recent purchase has been deemed unsuitable by OH and will have to be returned. We grabbed tea and a muffin while we were out, stocked up on bird food, and somehow I am now the owner of another peace lily!
I shall read a book tonight, and maybe do some logic puzzles, definitely avoiding the news, even my usually sunny disposition is under severe strain. I shall go out tomorrow and admire my snowdrop shoots and miniature daffodils coming up.

Possum's birthday dinner was very much enjoyed tho I found the Saigon grilled pork ribs too sweet for my taste. Thank you all for her birthday wishes.

I hope your crumble turned out well @Penny_Forthem.

Patchwork was good with plenty of chat and laughter and I actually got some sewing done this week. Normally I'm busy with admin - lists of who's doing what workshop, who needs what, who's car-sharing for events and so on. Can't be Blue on patch Monday.

Loved your pony story @Anna42. Our Belgian house had horse and pony paddocks across the road in front and next door we had cow pastures so saw plenty of such giddy activity thru the year. Here we just have seasonal beef cattle rotated with arable crops.

The forecast has changed again! Warmer tomorrow and dry. I'll be on the floor installing skirting boards all morning then going to collect my compost order from the gardening club.

Wishing everyone a pleasant evening and fun for @Ladybird4 at quiz night.

I enjoyed reading about your ponies @Anna42. I had horses for years in France. The most I had at a time was four, but one was my daughter's. As well as the ones I rode I used to have a rescue horse, 3 over the years. My daughter now has my old mare to keep her mare company. Mine is 26 and retired.

I'm glad Possum enjoyed her dinner @Obelix-Vendée.

I made 7 1/2 jars of marmalade this afternoon. Had to use MaMade as I couldn't find any Seville oranges, but it tastes good.

                    Happy Tuesday.jpg
Good morning @Ante1. I am so pleased to see you survived Monday  I was Quiz Meister last night for which I was truly thankful. The questions were really difficult and my team was well beaten. Our opponents were very pleasant so despite the thrashing I really enjoyed the evening. Next week we play the most unpopular and unfriendly team in the league. This is the team who didn't make it last year to our match as their plane left them stranded in Poland! A similar situation to that will be the only chance we have of beating them as they are the top of the league! Hope you all have a great day today. Unfortunately I will have to brace myself, administer a general anaesthetic and pick up a yellow cloth and the sucky thing and attack the living room. Please come and look for me later on if I have disappeared.

                        Good morning folks!

And to you early birds @Ladybird4 and @Ante1 Well - you are the early bird Ladybird as Ante and I are an hour in front of you.

Cloudy, dull and dismal. Rainy day day today!! I have a carton full of threadbare sheets and towels for the vet to deliver this morning so I will "pop" into Leclerc for a parsimonious shop. Only need a few things but these SM are a trap!
