They certainly do. Time taken, costs, independence, what happens after - all these things need looking at.

We need an inquiry into why inquiries dont work.

Hope to have some findings in about 5 yrs, and lets find some useless article to chair it along with hundreds of lawyers.
Should get away with it only costing about 15 million.

      Jobs for your mates.

Not one of them is worth a light, mostly because even when they are delivered, they don't have any material effect and worse, never seem to hold anyone responsible.

Take Grenfell as a prime example - it is going round and round in circles with everyone pointing the finger at each other and in the end not one person will go to jail. All those people, killed and nobody pays the price.

MP's, councillors and so on - they all know, they can make as big a pigs ear of things as they like and it matters not a jot because it isn't their money, nor will they ever have to carry the can beyond maybe having to tender a resignation.

"Lessons will be learned..." one of the most hollow phrases in this country.

There is no incentive to finish an enquiry, they just make people rich.

As for anyone taking the can back in the outcome, that will never happen, it just doesn't happen to people in high places.

Is the post office inquiry still rumbling on its got kind of overshadowed.

Surely we have to nationalise the utility companies?

They won't/can't - firstly, how many of those in the position to make the decision to do so are shareholders, and secondly the cost of buying these companies out would be huge. It was easy with the railways because they are on fixed term contracts with break clauses, not so easy for water and energy.

The sad truth, despite all the protestations that we hear about keeping the NHS public - a hell of a lot of it's operation is on contracts to private companies too.

If we fined them enough for their crimes, we could bankrupt them, then it would be easy to take them into public ownership.

That would only bankrupt the company - the asset would then belong to the creditors to sell off to the highest bidder.

You think regulators are there to protect us, the consumer?

Probably not legal and we would still have to pay for all the neglected infrastructure work to be done through higher bills and or higher taxes.

The only regulators I know of that work are those on high pressure gas cylinders, steam engines and clocks/watches.

Yes, most companies over here have dumped the DEI religion but the government at all of it's levels and the universities are still clinging to that nonsense. The best person for the job rule should never have been abandoned.

We've got international "students" complaining that they should be allowed to have full time jobs, and automatic admission to be permanent residents. Up until last summer, Canadian high school students couldn't find part time or summer jobs because they were all taken by temporaries. The pendulum is now swinging the other way. These jobs are not meant to be careers for anyone unless they have a limitation that prevents them working in other jobs.

My granddaughters both work part time after school or on weekends for McDonalds and just recently were paid for a shift to attend meetings with the owner (he has 5 stores) to discuss issues within their restaurant.

One store manager (granddaughter V's boss), is about to get the riot act because most of the participants for their location complained that they were maybe only getting 3 hours a week whilst her countrymen were being scheduled for most of the hours and given preferential times as well. Now the other kids will get their fair share of hours to make some money.

They also found that unless it was a "drive through" location, the closing time could be moved up by 1/2 hour so that these true students (granddaughter E) weren't up too late on a school night and and decided they didn't risk suffering any large losses to do that. And if it was a drive through, (granddaughter V) high school students would not be scheduled to work later than 10:30, the same as the non drive throughs. They recognize that education is valuable and must not be interfered with.

The one example shows that DEI is DOA! And the other shows that some of these franchise owners are caring and reasonable.

Not exactly a moan but this wake up to get rid of the woke is far too slow coming.

Part of the reason for privatisation in the first place was simply that the government departments saw/knew that various infrastructure was getting to a certain age and therefore would need replacing or hefty work, especially if standards were to be maintained. Privatisation then happened and standards were lowered, so much of the needed replacement etc still hasn't happened.

Think about it - how much of this country has drainage and sewerage systems still in use that were built in Victorian times? It is only really now that copper wires for telephony are being replaced with fibre, some 40 years since privatisation.

Plus, the smoke and mirrors around energy is nothing short of a joke.
