woke up to buffy white fluff all over the trees and shrub. snow is such a quieting experience. love it.
Someone said they want to divide the snow drops, frankly, I don't ever, they just spit their seeds and make more so my white carpet gets wider and wider. have about 4 white carpets of them. Sometime I find a volunteer off in the wood, and escape, LOL. Having over 400Thousand bulbs that come up in the spring, dividing the snow drops are waste of my time. There are 4 types of snow drops, have 3 types.

anyway, last visit to Ostopath doctor, Xray successful, he says I am all healed, the bones anyway, still need to get more OT done. but the psychology of "fear of falling" again is real. still not 100 % perfect. it also affects my shoulder. a work in progress.

        Good afternoon,

The weather today has been just like the last 4 or so days, cold, dull and miserable. However, we decided that we needed to get out of the house for a few hours, so went to a nearby outlet with the aim of buying a pair of flannette/brushed cotton flat sheets, but came home without, as there is now only one shop there selling bedding and they only had fitted sheets which I don’t want as our mattress is quite deep and many fitted sheets are not, plus I like a top sheet, too. So, still looking and will probably have to resort to online. However, I like to see the quality before buying, so I might go to Dunhelm.

We didn’t come away completely empty handed though, OH saw a couple of warm shirts and I saw a nice jumper that had been reduced to £7.99. They jumped into our basket . Then we had a spot of lunch out, so I won’t need to cook anything this evening.

I saw that piece about daffodils, @Allotment Boy. Some of mine are in bud, but not out yet.

Good afternoon everyone. Well it has been Baltic and rather drizzly here all day so I didn't get out into the garden apart from putting the bins and the milk bottles out. Done some knitting and a bit of HW. Glad that you enjoyed your walk @Butterfly6. Which of your two possible destinations did you finally decide upon? I enjoyed my walk round to my friend's house on Monday night before we went to the Quiz. I like being in the outdoors but not when it is raining. @Liriodendron, pleased you have your accommodation in Finland sorted and the two places do sound very nice. @Allotment Boy I heard a mention of the daffodil survey on the Beeb this morning but my daffs are similar to @Blue arbour's.
@redstar I was surprised to read you only have 4 types of snowdrops. In the UK we have over 19 different types and numerous hybrids.

Morning all, back from my blood test now, which turned out to be two as the nurse hadn't read my notes. Did the first one for cholesterol but not the one to check liver function after my first 3 months on statins. She wasn't terribly pleased when I reminded her but good job I knew what I was there for.

Got back home and whilst waiting for kettle to boil decided to try a paint patch test on a cream kitchen wall which needs touching up on the corner. Wrong shade of cream of course so I thought I could dilute it with white emulsion. Trotted up to the loft where I thought my plastic DIY box was hidden behind the filing cabinets.
Unfortunately it wasn't there and I have no idea where it could be. We did find masses of stuff which need to be junked though so not entirely wasted. OH is going to check in the old garage next.

Further exploration/junking/painting will have to wait till I get back after lunch. Time to meet my friend for lunch at the GC .

Forced myself out to the garden for an hour. Very enjoyable as it turned out, I managed to clear another section of bank and got to the roots of a couple of rhododendrons. I’ve chopped them back, but am planning to dose them up with some weed killer when they inevitably start sprouting again. I did feel like a mountain goat! The bank is not vertical, but not far off it. Takes a bit of effort to climb up it, wedging my feet in among the roots of the shrubs, but it’s far more difficult to get back down! The tendons at the tops of my legs are quite achey tonight.
OH has been complaining that he couldn’t find the stylus he uses on the iPad. Searched all over the place, including the laundry basket, he has a habit of leaving pens in his shirt pockets, so I have to check them before they go into the wash. Obviously missed it this time, found it tucked inside the washing machine door gasket. It’s a bit damp, but otherwise seems unharmed. Hopefully he will be more careful in future. I did once wash and tumble dry one of his credit cards. Found it, looking a bit clean but otherwise ok, in the tumble dryer. Thought it had survived until I tried to pick it up, it just drooped and stretched like a Dali painting!

My daughter gave us 10 stylus (styli?) for Christmas @Ergates. There is always one to hand now!

I didn't do what I said I was going to do, at least not all of it. OH wanted to go to Wickes for paving stones to make the garden patio, where the round table and chairs are, bigger. Gary, the local handyman, will be coming in about 10 days to do it. He will also re-lay the short brick path to the summer house using the left over pavers from the front garden. We chose the pavers then went to the sports shop to get OH a back pack as his is in France and he wants one here. Then we went to Sainsbugs to buy food for my lunch party on Friday and a few other bits.

We had a very late sandwich lunch in front of the TV, As Time Goes By. OH fell asleep and I looked up places and gardens to visit when daughters come. Made a list, next thing is to send them emails with links.

Evening folks. I had to go to the big smoke today (well, Limerick, actually) for some bits & pieces and it felt a lot colder than it should have done, according to the thermometer. It was that damp cold with a constant breeze, which goes right through you. I go by bus, which takes a while, but it's free with my "oldies' pass" and goes through pretty countryside. The bus was well heated, anyway, so by the time I got home I was warm and sleepy!

The birds are getting through sunflower hearts at a great rate at the moment. We've recently been visited by quite a number of siskins, such pretty little birds. No bullfinches yet, but I'm keeping an eye on the apple trees for signs of swelling flower buds, which will no doubt tempt them back to the garden. I've got plenty of old CDs to hang up again. I'm not sure it does much to deter the bullfinches, but it makes me feel I'm doing something to keep a few buds to turn into apples...

Good morning all. Grey and rainy start. It was raining since yesterday afternoon. Pets food was delivered as they said, and also my remaining seeds. Now I have everything except first early potatoes and onions.
Today should be an easy day, I hope. See you all later and have a nice day.

There has been much more feathery activity in the garden - where were they when I did the Big Garden Bird Watch?!

We went to the GC @Ladybird4 Had a brief browse outside but it was freezing and drizzly so retreated indoors for a coffee. I got the bits I wanted, Gloriosa daisies, various veg seeds and a few Charlotte seed potatoes. Am turning a small seating area into a veg/fruit patch so hoping the potatoes will help break up the ground where the bench and gravel was, as it’s quite compacted.

Working today but as the weather is still grey, damp and dreary it doesn’t seem to much of a chore

Today I will be preparing food for my lunch party tomorrow. The starter and pud can be made in advance.

Mustn't forget to put the garden bin out. It should be emptied early tomorrow morning.

Good morning everyone. Head still feeling like a block of concrete but otherwise fine now. Shivers, sweats and throat have calmed down. I have spent the last couple of days dozing, reading, cuddling pussycats and tidying up my data on the new PC. Not exciting but needed doing.

I was planning to go and inspect the naughty boy cows damage this morning but a heavy mist has descended and visibility is poor. Being beef cattle, they are heavy and OH says he has holes in his "lawn" but I'm more worried about my trampled bed. I shall have to wait till this pm when I go and see the chooks with their daily treat and also pot up my new dahlias.

Yesterday pm I planned and drew to scale a new seating and herbs/dry garden to extend our terrace as it's on the north side of the house which is great at the height of summer when we need shade but not so enticing the rest of the year. That'll keep us busy for a while, along with all the usual jobs.

I've read all the posts but too much to comment on so I'll just wish you all a good day, be it productive, creative or restful. Hugs as needed for thos with illness or bereavement.

No proper gardening for me today, my right forearm is a bit painful. OH has suggested I should do some stretching exercises before heading out with the loppers. Don’t think I’d better strain it, but I think I’ll be ok to shred the two big piles of greenery I’ve generated. Must try and work out what I was doing that caused the problem, so I can avoid that, along with any heavy lifting, and overdoing it with the long handled pruner.
Very glad you are coming through the lurgy now, @Obelix-Vendée. Hope your local pharmacy closure is only temporary, @lizzie27.
While I’ve been getting on with stuff in the garden, OH has been busy finishing off some neglected DIY jobs in the house. Painting of door frames getting finished off, and some loose skirting boards finally secured in place. I still have ambitions to move nearer to the family, but the house is not yet in a fit state to put up for sale. We have done a lot of very impressive improvements since we moved in, but somehow doing the final finishing off touches are nowhere as appealing as starting the next ambitious ‘Grand Designs’ project! Very satisfying to see some of the small but visible niggles getting tidied away.
Dull and grey, but we’ve headed out anyway, maybe a short walk and a top up shop at Waitrose on the way home. Must avoid the special eat in Valentines Day offers. Rarely something I fancy in all the categories, and I can end up buying some dessert that I’m not that keen on, and nullifying the supposed savings. OH often wonders how I can manage to spend so long in supermarkets, but a lot of that time is taken up with reading the ingredients lists and doing mental arithmetic!
