If the same as last year, which the price is, had estimate 12-14 ft , dont think committed to specific rootstock.Bought Opal ? plum fan trained and morello cherry. Both ;took and leafed. buds yet to swell this year. Caused a fuss by opening bags and checking for life !

      EDIT
Happened to visit this store yesterday (in the interests of fellow members !) and can now advise that
all apple varieties on offer had M9 rootstocks
      all pear were on quince
      cherries indistinct check before purchase.
All trees appeared to be healthy, newly arrived and (sofar)unmauled.
Seem good value at this price, trees typically 5ft tall and sturdy.

        Thanks @smallkernowgarden and @infradig
        - I bought plums Victoria and Opal . They were starting to break leaf buds and had ok roots. They were on St Julian A rootstock which is fine. I was tempted by the cherries (sweet and morello) but I know I wouldn't get any fruit - the birds would definitely get them first.
At that price, it would be rude not to buy!

You are correct about the birds. They ate all my cherries when they were still green.

Made me laugh ….in my old house I had a cherry tree and it was smothered with cherries a day or two from being ripe , I came home from work and noticed just stalks with stones attached and the neighbour laughing over the fence to me that a flock of starling took them all .. I did ask why do you find funny , he just looked at me with nothing to say

One autumn I was in the house when I heard a noise like a high wind, which was odd as it was a fine day. I looked out and saw a huge flock of starlings descending on my heavily laden rowan tree. When they rose again there wasn't a single berry left! It's never happened since - I don't get any starlings in the garden.

Best example I saw was a large apple tree on the campus where I worked in Nottingham. The tree was bare of leaves, but covered with fruit. A flock of waxwings spent a few days clearing the tree. They were very beautiful.

Tesco has apple and pear trees, 2 for £12. I saw Discovery, Cox's Orange, Jonagold and Golden Delicious. There may have been others. The only pear variety I saw was Conference.

They've also got fruit bushes for £2.50 - blueberry, redcurrant and blackberry.
