I report something to the local council about a pavement that you can't walk on because of mud being push from the grass verge on to the pavement so i used the words like "slip & trip" hopefully to get it cleared, well using the council website to report it which is the same as Fix My Street, they went and had a look and there is not safety problem, 2 days after me reporting it someone esle reported it and used the words that motabillty scooters can't use the pavement and now there is Action happening why does it take 2 reports to get things done with the 2 reports with picture's and a visit from the highways

My moan of the day is gardening related, not sure where else to put it, sorry.

Have now discovered that I cannot buy the seeds I wanted because I live in NI!! Cannot ship to my location I'm told! . As I'm wanting to make garden look more welcoming and colourful without spending a fortune thought growing some seeds might be the solution. I've seen seeds in shops here, but not the ones I want!

@luciusmaximus check online for an Irish supplier that has your seeds and either take a day trip to collect or have them posted to a friend or relly (if you have one) that lives just across the border.

We really need this, IMV. Some people report needing 8 or more apps for all the different places they park. There should be one central hub app that drivers pay and then the various companies can get the payments through it.

Quite. But how is it after 5 years of development they haven't achieved it? This could be farmed out to India Inc. and it would be done in a day

Shilly-shallying. A good English language term, dating back to the 17th century. They do say that each nation bequeaths its particular mental peculiarities to its language. And shilly shallying sums up the British personality to a tee. Why do today what you can put off until …. well… whenever…

I don't mind the mud on the paths, the bigger problem is in the summer when the council refuse to cut the verges. They claim it's all "for nature" but that is rubbish since they cut every other piece of green to the ground regularly everywhere else. In the autumn and winter when they are just twiddling their thumbs they cut it every couple of weeks but in the spring and summer it's perhaps once in 6 months.

The reason I don't like it is we literally get pavements covered in grass darts. They shed before the council comes and then when they do (after the grass is 3ft high) they just shear it down and leave it, again claiming it's environmentally friendly. We have had several older folk trip over on the remnants and I don't know a local dog that hasn't suffered. Our dog has had several darts work their way into her feet and cause infections and other dogs we know have had them go into their eyes and ears. The last time ours had an infection it cost £150 at the vets.

Tbh I don't think much of our local parks team. They put grass seed on the pitch and putt in December, followed by sand and fertiliser, then a few days later were out with the leaf blowers flinging it all into the woods. They also don't appreciate that trees need water when first put in or that they also need their bark. We have a demented man with a power strimmer that regular ring barks trees because they don't have a clue.

                          In the park this morning.
The wooded areas it looks like some child has just been given a chainsaw for their birthday.
Random trees just cut down, some at a height of 8ft some just to stumps and I can't see any plan behind it.
Some say it's down to ash dieback but hardly any of them are ash, lots are holly and very healthy judging by the stumps.
I'm not sure our parks and green spaces are safe with the councils we have.

@Jiffy I had something similar. One of the utilities had dug a trench across half the width of a road junction and filled it badly. Within a couple of weeks the tarmac was coming back out. Reported on Fix My Street and somebody came and patched in the deepest bit. That came back out again in a couple more week, and reporting again had the same result. Only when I said it was a risk
You shouldn't be surprised that anything which involves Government takes far longer than expected. I retired from the Civil Service in 2016. At that time everybody was supposed to be moved to Universal Credit within a couple of years. Forward 9 years and still many people not moved.

@Thevictorian by verge, do you mean the grassy area between your property line and the road? If so, we are by law, forced to take care of the town's property. We must mow regularly in the summer and clear the sidewalk in the winter. If we don't and someone slips on an icy walkway, we can be sued, not the town!

The town did a horrible job of snow clearing this year. I realize that 2 feet of snow over a 4 day period is quite a bit to handle but what they did was only clear a path about 1 3/4 vehicles wide slightly offset from the middle of the road. This left banks on my side which are about 5 feet high and extend well beyond the end of the drive and into the road. It "lengthened" the boulevard between side walk and traveled roadway by about 7 feet or so. It is hard to see traffic coming along when trying to get out but now I could park two more vehicles in that area if I wanted. But, as you say, this also gave me another couple hundred square feet to clear. Suddenly, mowing the grass on the verge doesn't seem such a big issue any more!
