Good evening everyone. I have had a super day today. Cakes baked, snowdrops arrived and then I was in the garden for hours (think I'm going to be very stiff tomorrow) which is the first proper session I've had this year. The cream on top of all that was England winning the Calcutta Cup - by 1 point. My blood pressure must have been through the roof. Sis sent me this picture of the cup before it was presented.

I am signing out for today. See you all tomorrow. I hope that @Songbird has had a lovely birthday. I have a sneaky feeling that there will be some hollyhock related gardening going on this year.

We’ve just been watching Landscape Artist of the Year and I thought of you because it was from Llanberis. There were some interesting art works made of the hills/disused slate workings. We visited a couple of years ago,( stayed in Deganwy) I fell in love with the scenery and would love to return!

Good morning everyone. Fingers crossed for another day like yesterday but just catching the weather forecast I think I am wishfully thinking. :frown: My right thumb is kicking off this morning after all the secateur work yesterday - chopping up lots of dead, woody bits to put in the green bin. After the tea/coffee morning I will be able to reassess the situation. I can always find something to do. Whatever you are doing today I hope it is pleasant for you.

Good morning @Ladybird4 and all to follow. Here is beautiful spring morning. The air has that specific fragrance, especially after rain. It's lovely warm, and I had my balcony door all night wide open. I'll also tray to spend as much is possible time outside. Pets and birds are of course all fed, and I have my cup of tea. Wish you all a lovely Sunday.

Good morning @Ante1. There is nothing quite like the petrichor! It was just wonderful here yesterday but apparently the tap controller is still not finished with us!

Good morning all, from wet and windy Scotland. Belated birthday wishes to Songbird! Glad to see you got into the garden at last, Ladybird. No chance of outdoor activities here, but I have plenty of inside jobs lined up.

Yesterday was a better day, with a mixture of sun, showers and rainbows, so I went for a walk in the afternoon. A curlew sprang up from next to the track and flew off to join its mate on the sea shore, with that lovely bubbling call.

I'm not sure how quickly this message will upload - my "goodnight" WhatsApp to OH didn't reach him until this morning! Hope you all have a lovely day.

Good morning @Liriodendron. How lovely for you to see and hear the curlew. It is a long time since I had that joy. Have a super day.

                    Good morning everyone!!

It did rain - down it came and soaked everything, so rather a mire this morning. The sun is peeping through dark clouds - it should dry up soon as no rain is forecast for a few days.

Happy belated birthday to you Songbird @Songbird I hope the day was special.

In the end I decided to incorporate some fair isle into the sleeveless cardy I am knitting. Thought that can't - shouldn't - and so it became "can"!! So I did. Not sure if I have made the right decision. Haven't knitted for years - Fizz was very interested. She is 9 in a couple of days so it goes to show that I haven't knitted for ages!! I will persevere.

Nice to be able to get into the garden again @Ladybird4 I hope you are not too sore. Sunday is rest day!!

Door quote appointment was cancelled yesterday afternoon so we were able to enjoy the fabulous sunshine and mild temperatures with a long walk round Sutton Park.

Was hoping to get a bit of time in the garden this morning but the threatened strong winds are blowing in. Not sure I fancy obelisk wrangling with 40+ gusts which is number 1 job on the list. Second is pruning the wisteria but ladders and strong winds doesn’t feel very appealing or safe either.

Still feels too chilly (for insects etc) to do much tidying of old growth and definitely too cold for seed sowing. I could tidy and clean the GH but might have an other cup of tea first whilst my enthusiasm for that job wakes up.

You’re inspiring me to get on with some knitting @Tui34 I started a cushion cover some time ago as a reintroduction to knitting but haven’t done very much since my initial burst of enthusiasm.

Another hollyhock fan here and am expecting great things from mine this year. They were grown from seed sown early 2023 and were lovely sturdy plants around 6” tall by Autumn when p,anted out. They stayed that height all the way through 2025, no more growth but looking quite content. I thought they were biennials but mine seem to be triennials. If they don’t do anything this year they will be sternly spoken too and out on notice :nonofinger:

                        Good Morning all.

No gardening today as it’s wet and windy. I slept well after all the fresh air yesterday, but a few aches this morning!

Sounds like many of us will be having an indoor day, whether it’s a rest or otherwise.

Very wet and windy here, so no gardening for me. Half term here this week, so the weather will be vile [IMG]
We connected the heated trays yesterday, but they didn't come on last night. Must investigate asap. I suspect that
                          a) he forgot to actually plug them into the socket
or b) the electrical 'gizmo' has failed.
                          I sincerely hope it's (a)!
One of our dogs has upset innards. I suspect Maisie, though Bryn was eating something very suspect yesterday, in which case, hopefully it is temporary. If it is Maisie, we may well have to consider that question, again. I hope not.
I'd like to try and catch that episode @Golarne, thank you
                          I hope @Goldenlily26 is OK.
My American friend's daughter will be studying French for 2 weeks in Montpellier, @Tui34

Very grey here and the morning's heavy mist has only just lifted enough so we can see the hedgerow across the road. Not inviting out there. No matter. I have things to prepare for tomorrow's committee meeting and then the usual Monday club in the afternoon. No knitting for me cos stocking stitch is just too boring and anything ese requires concentration and counting.

I hope everyone's enjoying their Sunday. Hope your bugs are easing @Tui34 and that heat mats and doggy problems are swiftly resolved @Penny_Forthem. Enjoy your brief stay at the cottage @Liriodendron. Hugs for @Goldenlily26 and @Badly_Maintained and anyone else feeling sad.

Thank you @Tui34 and @Liriodendron for birthday wishes and to everyone who sent wishes yesterday. It was such a lovely surprise from you all. Thank you. I am pleased to report that the heated trays are now on - the timer didn't seem to be working, so I've bypassed that and the seeds are now basking in semi tropical conditions!
I sowed Gardeners delight and a few Principe borghese toms this morning. The latter is quite old seed, so not holding my breath.
We popped into Aldi and the specials in the middle aisle are gardening stuff. I got a few bulbs and some paper pots. They have also got a good selection of Pataks pickles and pastes, plus ghee. I do like a hot Chilli pickle!
