Big sister says labels don’t matter although though easier to sell with labels as people “like” them. But anything without they usually estimate the size and put it on the charity shop label. Lots of things come in with the care labels cut off and doesn’t seem to bother anyone.

Splendid! Thank you, @Butterfly6. I have used a safety pin to attach instructions (machine wash, cool tumble, do not bleach, do not iron, do not dry clean, covering all possible bases :)) in a little plastic bag. :blue thumb:

I agree about the soft furniture issue - perfectly good 2 seater sofa but no Fire label and the charities declined. I can see their reasoning on this in a way as not everyone is always very careful about possible fire hazards in the home..........hence the continuing fires caused by people charging electric scooters and such like indoors.
Can't see a problem with lack of sizing labels on clothing tho - just try it on and see if it fits
Food banks can be somewhat annoying - tend to be very picky about what they will accept. Anything "out of date" is often refused just on that basis alone rather than using a bit of common sense.

Many years ago I saw a programme about a terribly posh lady who was described as a 'society hostess'. Basically throwing parties all the time. He nickname was 'Bubbles' but whether that was due to her personality or shape was never disclosed. They were going through her wardrobe and she happily showed that all her clothes were size 10. As she said, all her clothes were made for her so she would decide what size was on the label. Great character.

Some charities are extremely picky about what they accept, but don't necessarily tell the truth to people offering items. When my neighbour died her son contacted a national charity about furniture, including a 2 year old 3 piece suite. All parts had the fire safely label on them. They loaded the 2 chairs into their van and said they didn't have room for the settee, but would come back. Nobody came back that day, so the son called them to find out when it would be collected as he would have to arrange to come back. The person he spoke to said they didn't want the settee and they told him that at the time! No they did not.
Years ago when my father died, my mother packed up his good clothes and phoned a charity, actually the same one as above, to see if they wanted them. When they said they would have to check every time first to ensure "they were of acceptable quality" she told them to take a hike.

They used to have fire labels on nighties. I don't remember why they were different to other clothes. I hardly ever read labels these days.

I think it's illegal to sell upholstered furniture of an age that would have been originally sold with a fire safety label attached, if the label is missing, so we can't blame them for refusing it.

Nightwear (and I think all children's clothing?) has to have fire safety stuff on the label in red uppercase. I guess that's supposed to make it more noticeable but there seems to be no rule about the colour of the actual label that it's printed on. Here's one of mine (old and a bit faded, but you get the point)

There were a number of incidents were nylon night clothes caught fire on candles/open flames and melted into the skin as they burnt.

As for furniture fire labels it always surprises me that they are not more firmly attached to the furniture, one staple is not enough.

                  Another quick qu.

So, the gardening season is almost upon us (she says optimistically looking out at the grey, cold, wet landscape ) and I am itching to get going. But … I can barely move. Lower back stiffness is like a rigid vice round my hips. Bending is severely limited and getting down to ground level an ask too far.

Now, my qu is has anyone come across any cream or gel that helps? I can’t use Volterol or Ibuleve, or anything containing even a hint of a NSAID. My usual line of action is to wear a hot water bottle (heat patches aren’t hot enough) or lie on one (as I am now) between short periods of moving about. I’ve done chiropractors in the past, but it doesn’t really help. The problem has been ongoing since 2016 (13 August, to be precise). I’m not expecting it to clear up, but I do want to be able to potter out there.

                  Yours hopefully …

@ViewAhead , have you ever tried Dog Oil? It used to be used on greyhounds I think so that's where the name comes from. It's more of a massage aid really so maybe it's the massage that really helps but when I worked in the health food business it was our most popular item.

Has anyone tried 5Kind Hemp gel? The reviews look fairly good.

The Dog Oil seems to be petroleum jelly and flaxseed oil. Lubricating in a massage, but possibly not inflammation-reducing.

Have been to Boots - endless tubes of the best selling NSAID stuff, but nothing else, and no 5Kind in H&B either. I can get it on ebay, so might be worth a tenner to try. I slathered on a potion made of turmeric and lemon grass oil this morning. Not keen on the lingering smell and it stains everything mustard yellow, plus the relief is very limited, but I was desperate!

Have you had a scan, as it sounds like you have actually done something to your spine, bearing in mind you can remember the exact date it started.

I've had back problems for years and they get worse each year, had a back op in 2019 which was some help but it's never going to go away entirely.
Stiffness sounds like it either needs rest or gentle exercise, or probably both.

I've never found anything you rub on to have the slightest effect.
Many years ago I used to use deep heat spray, which does numb the pain.
