It's still a bit early to sow @Grandma Sue unless you have grow lamps and a greenhouse. I have both those but still wait till mid march. They soon get too big for grow lamps and where do you put them then?

No harm in trying a couple just to prove to yourself, you might have a really sheltered garden or conservatory.

What about some Micro Dwarf types, @Grandma Sue ? They stay tiny - this one was sown on 5th December. PXL_20250213_164438451.jpg

That's well worth thinking about @eatenbyweasels , I still have plenty of seeds you kindly sent me :) Looking back to last year I sowed in the 2nd week in March and ended up with 10 seedlings - 2 in each pot incase only one pops their heads up, "and blimey" before a new it I had ten seedlings. "my out-look is -"if they have struggled to raise their heads above ground then give them a chance, and... all will be useful in chutney.

I also intend to grow 3-4 of cordon, so they might be better sowed a month later as @JWK has often reminder me :blue thumb: :yay:
It's the holding back which is the hardest, compost is coming in 2 days- which will be hidden in a spare wheelie bin LOL, and I have plenty of perlite / a little vermiculite from last year, so... if I dip my finger's in just a little bit and propagate 3, it will stop me waking up early in the morning to find out I haven't got anything to show in my kitchen!
"Hats of to everyone who grows multiple crops, I for one would be a nervous wreck!

They are thriving. Not leggy. Looking great!

I had my first Fat Frog seedling appearing yesterday.
Main sowing is planned for the middle of March.

Fat Frog is a lovely, strong, stocky plant. And gives big fruit for a micro. :blue thumb:

Good grief @eatenbyweasels that's really impressive! Until you started mentioning them, I'd never heard of micros. How do you plan to grow them please? A tower? Hanging baskets?

Good idea re windowsills - more growing space. I've just planted Maskotka as I've read good things about it for tubs.
My others are Gardener's ecstasy, Loulou's best ever and Purple Cherokee. No Sungold this year - it didn't do well for me in 2024.

I grow a Maskotka every year for my neighbour. It's a really nice variety. Gardeners Ecstasy was lovely and sweet for me last year.

I hadn't heard of Loulou's, though. Looked it up and it looks scrummy, although too big for reliable ripening where I am.

Well someone else had also said about gardener's ecstasy, and I found the supplier for both is local, so hopefully both should do well here (though we are not as warm as Pembrokeshire)

I'm getting mine underway today. I'm away for a fortnight in about 6 weeks time so will plant whatever I have in the greenhouse and hope for the best. Not the end of the world if they all fail
