    Hi all,
Anyone give any advice on when to prune/cut back these verbena and gaura?
Itching to get out and tidy the borders, but should I hold off a few weeks?
Also, how far should I cut them back, and can the seed heads on the verbena be used to try and grow some plants from in the small plastic greenhouse we have?
    Many thanks.

You can cut down now yes. There is an argument for keeping spent foliage over Winter as a bit of protection from frost but that’s not needed with the tall Verbena. Not sure the seeds will be viable now, but you may find (almost certainly) that the Verbena has self-seeded about. See what others say though.

I've been putting off cutting my verbenas as the bullfinches were eating the seeds! Haven't spotted any diners for a few weeks though so might have to just get on with it.

      Many thanks for the replies.
How far should you cut the verbenas back? Ground level now, or a bit higher?
      Cheers.

I've just cut back my Gauras and the new shoots were a few inches high already, so I cut down as far as I could without damaging the new shoots.
Verbena I cut down to a couple of inches and will do these tomorrow as they are also showing new shoots.

Once you see the new shoots, the whole of the old stuff can be cut back.
