Your opening post refered to your "new house" but you later say you are looking to sell it ?!

You just need to be a bit careful these days about putting up things like wall boards if its intended to hide such problems as the buyer may have grounds for recompense if you do not declare such things.

That said a nice newly skimmed walls will probably help sell the house.

Plastering, even a skim coat, looks easy until you try to do it for yourself. It's likely to cost more to get somebody in to correct your mess than to let the professionals do it in the first place. As @pete suggested, do the prep work, in consultation with the plasterer.

I didn't say I was going to attempt to plaster it myself. I said I can't afford to get all the walls replastered. I had my Anglesey house replastered throughout and cost £5,000. Bigger house admittedly, but with cost of living these days price likely similar. I'm planning on doing up the house myself as best I can with the skills I have. Plastering, plumbing, electrics are not amongst those skills.

Yes, it is my new house but I don't like it, so selling as soon as I can make it look more presentable. Not aiming for total makeover ( which it does need ), just aiming to make it fresher, more modern looking . I can use my skills as a resin artist to add new counter tops in kitchen and cupboard inlays. Same with garden, just make it look better, more colour and more of an outside room without spending too much money.

I've rendered and plastered in the past and looking at the walls in your house they do need stripping back to the render and re-plastering.

Knowing that you want to sell, I'd have a quote done for the necessary work without letting on that you intend to move. Then ask an estate agent to value the place as it stands at the moment. You may be able to afford the loss on the value of the house in comparison to the price of re-plastering.

I've moved house quite a bit and to be honest it's not worth trying to 'dress up' a place before moving. The people that buy it will probably change most of it anyway.

The pics are not the best, but yes, I agree that room needs replasteting. Probably all the other rooms, too. Trying to get people to come and do small jobs seems difficult here! I need a plumber and electrician , but no joy as yet. Someone suggested the community pages on Facebook, so I'll try there.

I'm not " dressing " the house to sell as such, I don't actually have any furniture or soft furnishings, etc to artfully arrange. Have a mattress on the floor and that's it. I've already spoken to the agent who I bought the house from. House not going on the market for awhile, need to finish what I've started, depends how long that takes and agents say wait for weather to improve a bit and market pick up more.

Have a look for a local community website. Often you will find those working in the trades either advertising or recommended by someone.
