Be careful that you don’t spend more on the plants than you will get when you sell them

      Ain’t that the truth, @Golarne.

Acquire small plant for a fiver. Oh, hold on, it needs a pot. Another fiver. Some compost. And a gravel top dressing. Oops, the slugs have taken a fancy. Add in some copper mesh or tape, something to stand the pot on, etc, etc.

Before you know it, that plant has become quite expensive. I bought a hosta for under £2 in 2021. It is still alive … but what I have spent since keeping it safe, I dread to think!

Very good point. And I've already repotted them in bigger pots.

I've now taken back to the shop the 12 saucers I bought for just shy of £20. And whilst out in my garden today I discovered a number of bricks around the edges of the garden. Pictures below.

I wonder if these bricks will do the job. Any negatives to doing this?

Looks good to me as well. The only thing I would say is that if you could fix a couple of strips of wood together and lay along the top of the bricks ( a sort of horizontal trellis ), it would ensure that the pots could drain better and be more stable against any wind if there is a chance of that happening:)
