If I remember rightly the nuclear weapons that Ukraine had was the remains left behind including part of the old USSR fleet.
I may well be wrong but I remember a worry that all this nuclear junk was just rusting away and the thought was it could become dangerous.

Trump needs to look tough on Zelenski if he finally wants to stop the war.
In the same light as being accused of cosying up to Putin, Putin would accused him of cosying up to Zelenski if there was no agro.

At the end of the cold war; Ukraine was left with a lot of aging Russian nuclear missiles, mainly ballistic, a deal was done with USA among others and these were dismantled and the warheads shipped out and safely disposed of.
In return certain guarantees were made about support for Ukraine and defence in the future.

Am I remembering correctly from maybe 6 months ago that if our country was attacked we only have enough ammunition to last 3 days, if so what are our troops going to do if they went to Ukraine

As for Trump and his cronies it's like the school bully and his sycophants; they see another kid with something they want and they believe they can just take it and then turn nasty when there told they can't have it.
Generally doesn't end well for anybody and the thing they want get's broken or confiscated.

The same as they have done on every single battlefield since the 1700's.
March up and down to the skirl of the pipes and the swirl of the kilts, followed by the massed bands of the Household Division, with a lot of marching and countermarching wearing redcoats and bearskins.

Short on bears these days. I understand new ones are nylon.

I believe they still shoot bears in the USA so perhaps Trump would supply some.
Or there are still bears in the Ukraine, so they could provide some in return for our support.

I think that they still use bearskin - from bears trapped in Canada. Synthetic fur does not meet the required standard according to the MoD.

If they get a bit moth eaten Turnip’s topknot would be good for filling in the holes.

The media in general seem to have missed the irony of continual comments about various 'puppet states' supporting Putin, whilst Trump is blackmailing a Western democracy into becoming exactly the same thing.

Turnip in the Oval office in front of all those cameras said “This is going to make good television”. Did anybody else think that, even for Turnip, that was a non-sequitur? How about if Turnip and Poo Tin had agreed way back in the days of the Crimea invasion that “a deal could be done”. And what if Turnip and Zelensky had agreed before the “good television” that the best way for “a deal” was for Zelensky to capitulate and save lives. But the best way for Zelensky to remain a hero was to capitulate under extreme duress? So they humiliate him and the Ukrainians see his humiliation and support him. Then Turnip “suspends” American military support and Zelensky has to give in because he can’t go on. Then Turnip gets his mineral deal and Zelensky retires defeated but resilient to the last. And Poo Tin gets what he wants in terms of a land grab. and we all breathe a sigh of relief until the next land grab. What if Turnip had it all in his tiny little brain from before he was even president for the first time? Manipulation and money are all he is interested in.

If saying the Zelensky started the war isn't seen as backing Putin I'm not sure what will convince you. Maybe this from 2022 when Trump wasn't President "Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday described Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as “genius” and “savvy,” praising his onetime counterpart"

I don't disagree as such, but is it not better that there is a deal made where Ukraine gets some of the profits as opposed to continuing to spend billions on weaponry and killing tens of thousands of people? Russia may not be rich as such, but they aren't short of minerals and fuel, so they are not likely to back down. So far, it has been their North Korean pals that have supported them, but how long until China join in?

If there is a way to end the killing and have a strong 'backstop' with the EU and US, then it has to be better than the alternative in my opinion; I fully accept that there will be bits of the deal that will be unpalatable on just about all fronts, but that is unavoidable.

No. I prefer negotiations with Ukraine’s best interests at the centre. Not US interests. Not Russian interests.

If a Russian/US alliance comes out the winner, that might stop the deaths in Ukraine for a short while … but it opens all sorts of doors for similar thuggery elsewhere.

Russian/US alliance in what way? Is it not more a Ukraine/US alliance where the US have something of a monopoly on Ukraine's minerals etc? Whilst I can see that isn't necessarily as good as Ukraine having that all on it's own, would having that alliance with the US not remove the risk of further invasion from Russia -- almost telling Putin that "you aren't getting your hands on these minerals etc, because we have"

US have never done anything for free either, so that is nothing new - it is only within the past decade or so that we've finished paying back the US for stuff relating to WW2. I don't necessarily have an issue with that - I mean, why should they spend all of those billions on other countries and get nothing in return?
