Morning all. Whether Shrove Tuesday is meaningful to you or not, who doesn’t love a pancake?! Fond memories of childhood for me. We would rush home from school to help make the batter and Mum showed us how to cook them, then all devoured with sugar and lemon.

Another day to dry washing and catch up on a few jobs. I must arrange a haircut too. Have a good day everyone. Safe travels @Busy-Lizzie.

Morning, yes, Shrove Tuesday, Mardi gras is here!
We are off to the van for 3 nights and the weather, on the whole, doesn't look too bad. The heating has been left on 15 to air it, so when we get there we can boost it to a toasty 20.
We took the food yesterday, so we only need to sling clothes into a carrier and load the dogs. They recognise the preparations, so know what's up!
OH is all for making pancakes tonight! I should remind him to weigh out some flour to take.
Safe journey @Busy-Lizzie. I expect you'll find it much warmer in France.
      Enjoy those pancakes, everyone!

No pancakes here as Possum is still on no carbs. Not my favourite food either but I do enjoy a good savoury galette made with buckwheat flour or a good old drop scone. I used to do drop scones when Possum had a friend round on a Wednesday pm - no school - and their mums always asked for the recipe.

It's sunny here and will get to 15C. Home alone today so i've cleaned up the area round the leaky pipe and also cleared the table in the annex ready for some seed sorting and sowing. Same sort of weather all week till Saturday when the wind turns to the south east and brings rain. Nice welcome for @Busy-Lizzie but good for the drive down.

Have fun at the caravan @Penny_Forthem and everyone else whatever you're doing today.

          Good morning all.

Thank you for all the good wishes for our journey.
We are off to Eastbourne at lunchtime. I must put clean bedding on the bed and pack my laptop. OH has been vacuuming. He gets stressed leaving the Norfolk cottage and I get stressed leaving my French cottage!

Just spoken to my gardener in France. My photo album has been delivered early and is in the letterbox. He will put it indoors.

That is kind of you @Ladybird4, offering to help at the funeral. I hope it goes smoothly.

Morning @Ladybird4 and everybody else. Another hard frost early this morning but is now up to just over 9c so I'd better finish my coffee and get on out there. Just pottering jobs to do today as I have a gardener coming tomorrow to dig up some perennials clumps in an awkward place.
Thought I'd better be safe than sorry!
I have just walked two miles to the surgery and back to have my RSV jab, quite painless and picked up my meds at the same time. Pleased I managed to walk so far as I haven't done that for a while. Trying to improve my stamina.
Urgh, OH has just told we have a dead squirrel in our front hedge, obviously knocked down by a car so he's gone out to dispose of the body. Hopefully raids on my bulbs might now cease, the blighter dug some up only yesterday.
Have a good journey @Busy-Lizzie and I hope everybody enjoys their day, including pancakes!

              Good afternoon all!

I actually posted this morning but there seemed to have been a problem. Never mind I'll try and remember what I said.

Overcast and sunny spells today. Yesterday was quite grey and I finished up by carting 8 wheelbarrowfuls of topsoil. I thought it necessary to take a backward step today as my back and hips are sore. So, I have been sorting through the vegetable seeds - I will sow tomatoes and peppers to start - but my garden will be very limited now.

Fizz doesn't roll in the manure but she has an annoying obsession of tearing back and forth with a toy in her mouth whenever I am in the garden. More tiring sometimes than the gardening itself.

I hope you all have a pleasant afternoon getting lots of things done!!

Really cold this morning, but the sun was out so I persuaded OH we should go and see the donkeys, and partake in their pancake day offerings! I had mine with blueberries and maple syrup. It was so hot by the window that we were happy not to linger for too long, and head out for a walk. Just glorious in the sun, spring flowers coming out and buds on the trees, as well as a decent walk, we sat on a bench for twenty minutes and just enjoyed the warmth and the view. Picked up some shopping on the way home. After lunch, I will head out to finish filling the green bins to go down to the kerb this evening.
I usually cook pancakes once a week, but won’t have to today. It was always a big thing in our house when I was a child. If my dad didn’t have a late shift, and was home in the evening, he would be in charge of tossing the pancakes. One rather enthusiastic effort sent a pancake up to the ceiling where it stuck. Of course, the dog was waiting patiently underneath and grabbed it when it came down. Hope @Busy-Lizzie has an enjoyable visit with the family. Very envious of your caravan, @Penny_Forthem. We keep looking at motor homes and wondering whether to get one, but have realised that many of the places we like to visit are quite near home!

"Shrove Tuesday" ??? nope never heard of. Neat to hear of some invented unusual celebration thing. Pancakes--have a feeling your pancakes and my pancakes are to different types. Ran across one using lots of sour cream with some flour and eggs, really good. Sometime I will use leftover sweet potatoes to make them too. anyway. perhaps we eat them 3X a month. I always have a easy over egg with mine, and good coffee.
@Ergates we have a motor home, was husbands idea. Not fan of it at all. i wanted a smaller type with the built in cab, the one we got has to be towed by a truck, have to get a sway bar etc. Its actually sitting at our nephews down in Gulfport, Miss. on his property. Never stayed in it, husband did for a couple months, but that was 2 years back. To me a waste of money. The little truck we have to pull it is also sitting down there in Gulfport, we are suppose to get it moved up to our house in the North, then he will sell the other truck we have here. My nephew has enough trucks to use to pull the home about. Nephew has used it for his family, when he goes to jet ski races.
                  Later.

@redstar Shrove Tuesday is a Christian tradition that pre-dates the USA by about 1500 years. Not Catholic tho as they have their pancakes at Chandeleur/Candlemass at the beginning of Feb. It is the day before Ash Wednesday which marks the first day of Lent when Christians gave up rich foods and treats for 40 days, like Christ in the wilderness before Palm Sunday. The pancakes are a feast before the fast.

American pancakes are just bigger versions of northern British drop scones and probably arrived with Scottish emigrants during the highland clearances. We eat them one at a time, not stacked, and usually for a tea-time treat.

I suppose the British pancakes are like crepes, but a bit thicker. I also like American style pancakes but they are more ‘cake-y’.

Just had a few hours gardening after a trip to ‘do’ Dad’s feet and do a little Diddly-Dee shop. I’ve retired a pot-bound and poor-performing Clematis - they don’t like pots. Now to think of something else to go there… the trellis is still ok so something climbing for part shade…

We've had a gorgeous day with the dogs in the van in the sun.
Ours is a tourer @Ergates though sited permanently now. I've towed it all over France, but decided 6 years ago that it was too stressful.
We have been to lidl for Italian goodies and bird food.
I'm not a fan of American pancakes. Too sweet and too much cinnamon.
They thought me odd for just ordering plain with fruit. I have brought flour and a whisk, so pancakes on the van is 'on'. It's a first, as Shrove Tuesday is so late this year.

I am a Christian (not Catholic) heard about Ash Wednesday, but not Shrove Tuesday. And heard about Lent. OK, just looked it up. in Pennsylvania we call Shrove Tuesday ---- Fastnacht Day, stores sell a donut type thing with filling in it. I am actually from Ohio, don't recall that there, but who knows, I was too busy just working and going to college to join the world.

Good evening all. Today has been pretty full on. I didn't get back from tea duty until 14:30. We met and greeted the caterers, having set up the Social Centre, eventually the mourners came after the service and we were then busy supplying teas and coffees. It is a long time since I was on my feet for almost 5 hours and my legs were not too impressed. I am quite tired now so I'm signing out for today. I am even too tired to have my pancakes but will enjoy them for breakfast. I will catch up with you all tomorrow. Enjoy your evenings.
Hope you had a good day.jpg

You’ve done something very generous and kind today @Ladybird4. The pancakes will taste even better tomorrow, when you are more rested.

My pancakes were delicious (as the little people now say: they were “banging”!). Mint tea now and a bit of TV/YouTube programs.

Take care all. Last of the frosty nights for a while here.
