Oh, I didn’t miss it. He is imposing tariffs all over the place, on countries he has no intention of invading, eg China. That’s why I think tariffs and invasions are different things.

His invasion threats are extremely dangerous. That is why my posts are so squarely on the side of Ukraine. If Trump “wins” there without Putin suffering at all for the damage he has inflicted, that emboldens Trump to do the same to Canada or anywhere else in his sights. And it gives China tacit permission to stroll into Taiwan.

Nightmare!

Fear not, I am on the side of the underdogs across the world when it comes to bullying thuggery by the powerful.

 

Certainly there is a lot of “theatre” going on.

I think one additional problem is the Trump/Vance team has no compunction about outright lying. They may backtrack a day or so later, but the damage is done. The media is doing a very poor job of interrogating claims made.

Being to fat to fight might not go well if another country decides to invade.

@Fat Controller --- nothing of any value for the UK to exchange to broker a deal if necessary ? I couldn't think of anything of much value either hence my suggestions. Actually if you think about it, Trump appears to be a Royal fan but suspect he'd only want the "top dogs". He'd be more than welcome to Hinkley C nuclear power station tho

 

I dont know where he is heading with the tariff idea, he's just going to make everything in America so expensive.
I know the idea is that people will buy American made stuff but surely its only really China and maybe India that are undercutting home made stuff.
The percentage also seems stupid, 25%.

He wont reign long if he does isolate America in such a way.

 

He's also now said it's going to be really difficult to bring down food prices and no-one seems to have any idea of the economic impact of ridding themselves of all the park wardens and other easy targets they've summarily fired. At some point the worms will turn. I sincerely hope so anyway and let us not forget that Musk is an immigrant consuming billions in subsidies for his technology adventures.

 

Like most world leaders, I doubt Trump gives a stuff about making things expensive even to his own citizens. Just so long as they can enjoy the sort of lifestyle not open to all, they won't worry. Nowt new there sadly.

Regarding Musk, I struggle to work out why everyone seems to run him down but at the same time all the news reporters seem to keep quoting what he said on X.
Its almost like they just cant ignore him.
He's laughing at them all still having accounts.

 

As we haven't yet managed between us to resolve the US/Russia/Ukraine how about a garden related moan for a change...........how come you cannot complete one job because you have to sort out another job first and to do that job is impossible without doing another one first ? Or perhaps it's just me?

@Philippa I had decided today was tomato and chilli sowing day but first had to clean up a bit in the annex so the plumber could fix the leak in our pipe unencumbered. We have a metal framed, glass top table in there covered in all sorts of stuff which I cleared and cleaned and then got out all my seeds. Fine so far.

However, when I unpacked my new seed trays with grow lights I discovered the heat mat I was expecting wasn't included - my mistake but irritating - and the plug is furrin! OH knows where adapters are but is out playing golf. Can I find my heat mats from last year? Not until about 5 mins ago when I had a flash of inspiration. Too late now as I need to get dinner on the go and spruce up for dance class.

On the bright side, the plumber has been and replaced the bit of dodgy pipe so we do have water where it's supposed to be. OH is available for the next 3 days so joint gardening jobs where I need help or he needs supervision (keeps having ideas!!). Busy this weekend and Monday so sowing next Tuesday.
