What's buzzing or flying near you 2025 ?

Very loud bumble bee in the garden yesterday. I believe at this time of year they are all queens, looking to set up the new nest.

 

Our Goldcrest has been visiting for 5 weeks now and still goes straight to the fat balls.

 

The rare North American Lesser Scaup is still at Longham Lakes (near Bournemouth Airport)
and follows it's Tufted Duck relations around.

 

A Red Admiral greeted me today. I believe they like flowering ivy and rotting fruit, both of which can be found in my garden.

 

A mistle thrush flew into the orchard with a small flock of starlings. Not seen that before. It then moved away from them and came very close so you could see the amazing plumage. Later on we could hear it twittering away in the spinney.

 

I still haven't cut back the Verbena Bonariensis and today there were goldfinches eating the seeds. I think I'll have to cut off the seedheads and tie them somewhere the birds can reach them before cutting back the plants.

 

The Razorbills and Fulmars are back on the cliffs at Durlston CP.
The Guillemots and Razorbills were having a good time washing.

Well a great start before the weather turns cold again.
Small tortoiseshell, large white and then a brilliant brimstone (butterflies) flying around. Not sure what the brimstone would be feeding on but lovely to see it.

 

Put out a fresh apple for the blue tits today.
