OH has covered the whole area where our front lawn used to be with membrane, pegged down and taken out the black border edging. Tidied up the edges then and it’s all ready for the gravel now. We are off to Bil and Coo tomorrow to order some bulk bags of gravel so , overall, that will be a very good job done and dusted. No more mowing a front lawn, marvellous.
Was hoping to empty a pot of grape hyacinths that haven’t done anything this year and sow some Cornflowers in said pot, but after helping OH ( a little) in front garden, doing a weekly shop and sorting out a delivery, I am rather pooped now. Maybe tomorrow . It’s been a glorious day here , sunny with highs of 14 degrees.

I was going to weed today as the dry weather had finally made it reasonable to hoe the soil. But I had to pivot to potting up tomato seedlings. They had been in a sunny window, and the cat decided they were worth chewing. So they are now in the frost free greenhouse section. She has also gone for pea shoots and spring onions. A salad-eating cat?
Of course it has now started raining after a lovely sunny week!

@CostasK I have an Amazon wishlist which, for the most part, takes care of errant home decor gifts :heehee:

          Fingers crossed for the rose!

I mowed our main back lawn, first cut of the season, and two others that are about half that size each.

I don't take a close up of it as it is 70% daisies, clover moss and weeds :doh:but it looks good at a distance. :heehee:

I've checked the seeds I sowed the other day and the callistephus has lift off :yahoo:I think the calendulas, matthiolas and poppies are on the cusp and I can just about make out tiny cracks in the pellets of the eustomas/lisianthus and nicotiana. Always exciting to see things start to come to life

@Februarysgirl have you grown lisianthus before? How easy are they please? I've always assumed they were for cut flowers rather than a border plant, so haven't tried them.

@CarolineL It's my first year growing them and I've heard they aren't supposed to be for beginners. I decided to have a go anyway :heehee: They're definitely a cut flower but I don't know what they're like in borders. All of the videos I saw on YouTube were from cut flower growers but there's an Instagram gardener who grows them in her back garden.

No gardening yesterday, I went for a longer than usual walk instead. On my return I gave the tree fern trunk and crown a soaking with diluted seaweed extract and ordered three open flowered Dahlia tubers which the bees should approve of. One, Waltzing Matilda, I've grown before, the others are Bright Eyes and Fancy Pants - I won't be displaying the names .
