Yesterday I planted my little Hydrangea Unique into a pot to grow it on a bit. I don't want to spend a lot of money on buying different sized pots, so I've bought £1 buckets from B&M,and using those. I used another bucket to plant an Agapanthus root, although I'm not sure it's still alive as it looked dehydrated and flaky when I took it out of the packet. It say January for planting. I googled images of roots and mine doesn't look like a healthy specimen ..... time will tell if it's going to revive. Been raining most of today, so garden has a good watering.

Tonight I managed to overturn one of my mushroom trays of seeds :gaah::gaah:. The compost slid out of the tray in an intact rectangle, but upside down. I could see seeds had started to sprout! Couldn't get the compost back into tray right way up, so not sure if the seeds will survive now ?? I've made up another tray just in case

I wouldn't have felt so bad if seeds were not sprouting. I feel like I've condemned them before they had a chance to live , I know that's silly, it's just a few seeds and I have more, but I nutured them and it's rare for me to grow anything from seeds.

This morning before the rain we did some cutting back of seeded plants that the birds had no finished with, dug up ivy that had self rooted in a gravel bed and repotted 4 orchids.

@luciusmaximus, agapanthus like to dry out over winter, so I wouldn’t despair of it yet. It may not flower for a few yrs though.

What a shame about your seedlings. I always feel incredibly mean thinning them out after they have put in all that effort to get started.

Two days ago we pruned our roses so today I plan to take rose cuttings from them. Up to last year I failed miserably then I tried Philips (Glenn garrys ) advice using potatoes . Good results end of year I ended up with 3 pots of new Rose s and 3 pots of spuds !!!!!

Having finished reconstructing the log pile, this morning I dismantled the leaf mould bin. I dug off the top unrotted layer to start a new pile in a more suitable part of the garden (i.e. not wasting the sunshine). Underneath was some fantastic material with the fattest worms I've ever seen.

I've had a productive morning - I hope. Went to a friend's farm to dig out some horse manure. It was extremely well rotted and I cut it out in blocks. Filled 13 x 70 litre compost bags, which was all I could fit into the car. All unloaded and stacked ready for someone to come and take it to the bottom of the garden to mix it into the compost heaps. Hopefully, after my in house masseuse has worked on my back, I shall be able to stand up straight. :fingers crossed:

Bloomin’ heck, @shiney! You’ll do yourself a mischief! Mrs Shiney must have magical powers, keeping you up and running.

I have potted on 4 little plants and am now lying on a hot water bottle. Send Mrs Shiney this way when she has a moment. :blue thumb:

I have repotted the rest of the plants from the old pond and put them in the new one. Also potted up a sedum and a sempervivum bought this week. Tried to tidy up a bit now that the pond is done. Weeded and mulched the strawberries. Hoed the front garden.
Realised that I need to move the parasol or it will be fighting with the new standard rose!

:loll: I’m a WASPI stripped of the heating allowance, so probably not!

I have a conundrum. There is something growing in my newly acquired Blue Panda Corydalis which I am pretty certain is not (front left, paler green). It looks more vigorous than the wisps of Corydalis growth, so I may have to take some action. Is it perchance a rare and highly prized specimen of something or other (;) can but be optimistic) … or a rampant weed? Any ideas?

Today, besides a bit of general cleanup, I planted 2 ferns and 2 calamagrostis Karl Foerster (you can see them at the front and the far back of the slate chippings area accordingly).

I still have planting to do - the 2 heucherellas that you can see in the photo (they are still in their pots), 2 blue hostas that will be between the ferns and the heucherellas, and 6 tiny lithodoras for the front garden. But I decided to leave the rest of the planting till at least next weekend, because there might be some frost mid week. I think those plants would probably mind that more than the ones I planted. 20250308_165928~2.jpg
