I only planted these Cosmos seeds on Wednesday afternoon so was quite surprised to see they’d popped up this morning. They were just placed on a sunny windowsill

Sowed quite a few seeds today, mainly for germination on the bathroom windowsill - lots of room there and sunny. The prettiest seeds were the Ricinus Communis 'Red Giant'. I wonder why they are so decorative?

I always think they look like insects.
You have reminded me of an old favourite I might get some.

They are pretty - perhaps it's to make up for their lethality!

I sowed these tomato seeds on 1st March and they germinated much quicker than normal, probably because the house is quite warm.
Last year I sowed my tomato seeds at the end of March in my unheated greenhouse and they took 3 weeks to germinate and the whole season was a bit delayed so I wanted to get going a bit earlier this year.
Is there anything I can do to slow them down a bit? I have moved them onto the kitchen window sill as the kitchen is much cooler than the living room but they seem to be growing rapidly!

I would take the lid off. The reduction in temperature and humidity may help slow them down?

I haven’t sown anything yet, will probably start in a couple of weeks but all will be in the cold GH. I haven’t the room indoors, although I may try chitting a few seeds on tissue paper and then transferring them into the GH trays when they start germinating (a suggestion given to me on the forum). I’ve just accepted that I’m not picking tomatoes until long after most of my fellow posters :dunno::whistle:

Good idea @Butterfly6 hopefully that will slow them down a bit

In 2023 I sowed my tomatoes on 20th March in my unheated greenhouse and they germinated fairly quickly and it was a good season but last year it must have been colder and it took ages for them to get going! It’s a gamble isn’t it :)

Sweet peppers have now started to germinate, tomato seeds sown a week ago have yet to appear. I've sown a lot of veg into modules in the green house. Sown lettuce seed, marigolds, calendula, aquilegia, Impatiens balfourii, Helicodiceros musciverus, Dianthus caryophyllus, Antirrhinum "Black Prince" and "Night and Day".
For the propagator Rehmannia, Gladiolus tristis, Lobelia cardinalis, Dahlia coccinea, D coccinea var palmerii, D excelsa, D australis, D merckii and D merckii from a different supplier.

I’m thinking of sowing some sugar snap peas direct into a raised bed at the base of a south-facing stone wall. Am I being too hopeful?!

edited to add: this would be in Hereford, not in Belgium

I've only sown some catharanthus, a few thunbergia grandiflora and lobelia Tupa.
Got some salvia euphoria that I sowed a few weeks ago.
The morrisons sweet peppers are doing well.
It's still early for my main sowing of veg apart from zebrune onions which are on the greenhouse bench with minimal heat.

Always interesting to see who sows what and when they germinate. In the heated propagator, my Sungold Toms took 3 days to germinate but no signs of the Choc Cherry or the Tumbling Toms. Beans ( Cobra ) also took the same time but both varieties of Sugar Snap are still asleep. Courgette is also up as are the Mazur lettuce, Rocket and Ipomea.
The mixture of Spicy salads and the Land Cress which I sowed a few weeks ago are already pricked out and in the unheated GH. Fleeced during the recent frosty nights but otherwise thriving.

Pricked out 60 lettuce into modules. Far too many but it's handy having spares. They should be good to go in the ground start of April weather permitting

Why not sprout them before sowing if you do not have the greenhouse working yet to start them in a piece of gutter, should then be OK, peas are quite hardy.
                                Protect seeds from mice !
                                Protect from slugs and pigeons.
Potential problem of lack of pollinators ,as is early. Snap peas are potentially self fertile and may just need movement of air to do the trick.
