Chatting with fellow gardeners over a cuppa yesterday and the subject of older period dramas came up!!

Trying to remember the name of a short period drama about a character that i think was called Molly.

If my memory is correct i think it was a fairly short drama, perhaps just three episodes, and it caused quite a stir i think at the time, today of course we'd probably not think so.

The character, Molly, was a Victorian thief, pickpocket, prostitute and just about anything else she could get away with. A nobody who ingratiated herself with, usually men! Of a much higher class! Slowly working her way in and up, bettering herself in whatever way she had to!! I think she married above her class more than once, husbands died, probably heart attacks brought about by exhaustion! She of course chose well and inherited the husband's estates, i think.

If my memory is correct, there was a blatant error in the making of it insofar as there was clearly a Ford Mondeo (A Car anyway, whatever it was) in clear view in one of the episodes.

Can anybody remember the drama's title? I think it was simple, Molly "Something"?

As far as i know it was only broadcasted just the once, too hot probably.

Are you thinking of Moll Flanders? ITV series 1996 The Fortunes amd Misfortunes of Moll Flanders.
Based on the book by Daniel Defoe so definitely not Victorian.
Note River Song plays Moll Flanders.

Definitely 'The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders'! A 1996 4 part adaptation of Defoe's 1722 novel. Certainly not Victorian! Vic would have had a hissy-fit! Stars Alex Kingston and Daniel Craig. Well worth watching! :dbgrtmb:

That's the one, thank you so much. I was googling the name Molly and various other words i could think of, no wonder i couldn't find it and using the word Victorian with Period Drama failed me too.

Not Victorian, but that was stuck in my head when searching for it.

Does anybody else remember the Ford Mondeo parked in the background during one of the episodes, a lot of people did see it and of course many didn't notice it too.

Our conversation was largely about period drama blunders, things that were seen in the drama that hadn't been invented yet such as aeroplanes in the background sky, electric and gas meters etc on the wall, plastic guttering. The sign saying "Toilets this or that way!"

It's also interesting to see someone, a waiter carry a tray of drinks or food out of the Kitchen at (Cragside Hall) along a corridor in (Castle Howard) and into the dinning room at (Highclere Castle) for example.

Next time I dig out the 'Moll Flanders' dvd I'll pay extra special attention and see if I can spot that car @akwe-xavante ! Never noticed it before!
