Maybe the markets will do for Trump what they did for Truss. Money is a powerful motivator in politics. And the beauty is no specific person can be blamed/arrested/deported/insulted on X, etc. You can’t wage war against the markets.

I've read plenty of fiction where unscrupulous moneymen drive down the price of a competitor's shares to ruin them or buy them out or just take profits when all the shares rise again in value. I don't think Trump is clever but he's cunning and shifty and sneaky with no civic minded principles.

Many locals here bemoan the voting of those attempting to get a degree or in higher education. The problem as they see it is that it doesn't matter what the local view is, simply because of the enormous student population, it always go labour. I don't know anyone who is a fan of the mp for norwich south, quite the contrary, but his seat is so safe he can pretty much say/do what he likes. It is probably why most of the city is being redeveloped into student flats.

I think Canterbury was one of the places that suddenly ended up Labour a few years ago when students were allowed to vote in the city they were attending university instead of having to vote in their home town.
Most of the residents had voted Conservative for years.

There should be no safe seats, IMV, as it makes a nonsense of your vote counting in if you live in one.

Students are a tricky case. They only live short-term in their Uni location, but they are only part-time at their family home as well.

Their ties are surely more connected with their family homes so that should be where they vote. At least they're voting tho. If the apathetic adults and those who feel disenfranchised by their situation voted the results might be different, or even more skewed another way.

The issue with student voting is that it's like choosing the prime minister, you get an overall result chosen by the whole country but it doesn't necessarily represent local views. In other constituencies you can vote for another party and still be represented but if students have elected someone "artificially" in a constituency it's not really right.
Unfortunately I don't think there is an answer because it's more sensible to vote where you will be living, meaning people will always be annoyed. Luckily where I live there are less students and the constituency flips based on local opinion.

Just watched BBC news. A highway is being driven through the Amazon Rain Forest. Probably followed by gas stations and motels. Rare trees and wild life being wiped out. No sign of any of these Green Protestors. Not even protesting outside embassies. Perhaps they should get out their beds have a shower and do some real protesting.

I feel kind of in two minds about this kind of thing, we have trashed our wild places and killed off all wildlife we didn't want, but now we tend to tell others that they cannot do the same.
Ask a farmer if he wants beavers or wolves, bears, the list could go on and the answer will always be no.
Admittedly we are really over populated and wild habitat for such animals is very limited.

At least with a supposedly 'safe seat' there is always a chance to vote somebody out. The Tories discovered that at the last election. With proportional representation, the Government presumably decides who they want to fill the seats they win.
