          @Victoria the Kalanchoe is from a plantlet that fell into a pot with a cactus, and it has grown very tall, actually it is 3 feet tall. They are like weeds in my greenhouse, coming up in lots of pots containing other things, and although I knew they can grow tall, I've never had one this tall before.
          The Cleistocactus in the same pot was much taller once but it has died back over the past few years.

            @noisette47 I think you were right. At the garden center today, I saw one plant looking like my leaves and their label said: Ilex cerenata something like that. The Hebe plant didn’t have the slightly serrated leaves. But I had a Hebe label last year! Stupid me didn’t see the difference but your question made me suspicious.

              Been cool here so far this spring so new flowers have been slow to emerge but those that have seem to be lasting well.
              Hellebores still flowering well

                Google image search gives Salvia spathacea well it's not that. Nor is it Salvia dorisiana.
                Pl@ntnet says S tortuosa 3.7% match or Colquhounia coccinea 3.1% match and both are very wrong.

                    @NigelJ could your mystery plant be a phlomis? Labiatae and looks a bit hairy.

                          @CarolineL
                          Possibly, phlomis is not a genus I'm at all familiar with.
                          Thank you Caroline you've prompted me to revisit the Hill House Nursery website (Originally bought from there sans label last spring), they didn't list any phlomis; so I revisited their salvia collection and found Salvia leucocephla.
                          Description from Robin's Salvias has this description
                          A rare species from Ecuador, where it has been known to reach 15ft in height, this is a tender, winter-flowering Salvia. Here, it has only grown to about 4ft, and starts to flower in February. Foliage is plain green, but the flowering stems produce large whorls of buds at the top which are covered in white, woolly hairs. The large flowers are a beautiful deep red colour. Unlikely to set seed here. Prune after flowering, as there will be lots of new growth from the base of the plant.
                          This is exactly how my salvia is behaving, it was the two different types of foliage plain green and white wooly was what it made it difficult, mine are also sprouting from the base.

                            Shame it's tender @NigelJ . Though I find most salvias perish here even if supposedly hardy

                            My initial thought was S.curviflora but the foliage sounds wrong. Have you looked on Robins site?
