Hello, My name is Kate and I'm from Staffordshire. I have a large back garden that I am slowly working on to turn into an attractive, motivating and relaxing place to be. I also have a little greenhouse where I'm growing some runner beans, spinach, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, beetroot and peppers, along with sweet peas, cornflowers and sunflowers.
I've joined your forum to gain some help, advice, expertise and inspiration. I'm looking forward to learning from you all. My Grandad was a good gardener and I want to make him proud.
Thank you for accepting me :)

    This is my garden

A warm welcome @Kate Flynn! A small correction if I may- it's not "your" forum, it's "our" forum now that you are part of the gang :)

I find this forum so knowledgeable, kind and fun it's a treat to be a member. :)

              Welcome to GC :blue thumb:.

A good looking garden and very neat. I'm curious as to where you will be growing your runner beans and sweetpeas as they can grow quite tall. :)

Thank you, I intend planting them in the bed on the right hand side, my poles are already in. My plants, which I now realise I planted too early, are very healthy and huge. When is the earliest I can plant them out so that the frost doesn't get them?

That's difficult to say but not usually until the beginning of May to be on the safe side - unless you can use fleece around them if there might be a frost. We have had frost every morning this month apart from today. It depends on your situation and local weather trends. If you're in the middle of a town it will be warmer.

If they are getting too big and you are in danger of frosts you should keep them in the greenhouse. Then move the plants away from each other if you can and put small sticks in the pots for them to cling to. Then when danger of frost has passed you can plant them out close to the poles but still keep them on their sticks. As they get taller then you can help train them up the poles if they don't do it themselves. Handle them gently.

                  Good luck :)

Thank you, their tendrils are beginning to wrap around the greenhouse shelving but I intend putting some sticks in today to give them the support they need. I'll keep them inside for a few more weeks and put them out at Whitsun maybe.

                    This is them currently...

Whoops! Try putting them into slightly larger pots. Check under the pots to see if the roots are coming out, if not, then leave them but keep checking.

You will need to start hardening them off as well.

I'm going to sow mine next week.
