    Hi

I have had a conference pear tree in my garden for a year, it is quite a small tree and could be about three years old. The tree is in a sunny spot, in a south-facing garden. We have never had any fruit from the tree, and now the leaves look like this (photos below):

Please can someone tell me what is wrong with the tree and how I can go about treating it?

    Many Thanks

    Hi raregardener,

From the photos it looks like your tree is suffering scab disease, caused by the Venturia species of fungi. It's quite a common disease, and although disfiguring, is unlikely to kill your tree. You may benefit from using a fungicidal spray (do a search online or at your local garden centre), although these sprays need heavy reapplication all through the growing season.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the help. I will get down to my local garden centre to pick up some fungicide soon.
