Hi, I have a couple of minature apple trees but have noticed a problem with one of them. I have attached a photo at

I'm not sure what to do about this as there is no evidence of any bugs. I would also appreciate any advice on the best way to look after a minature apple tree as advice seems to be a bit thin on the ground (or I'm looking in the wrong place). Thanks

Stroudy, it looks like a combination of slug/snail damage, scorch and mineral deficiency. What are you feeding it? Is it in a container or the ground? What situation is it in and, finally, what pest control are you using?

This is my first time looking after an apple tree so I may be making some mistakes but here goes.

The tree is planted in a bed with a covering of gravel. It is reasonably exposed but in a sunny postion (I am supporting it with a stake until it gets bigger). I fed it at the start of the season and half way through with some bone meal (I suspect this is where the mineral deficiency may be coming from) and it is planted in clay.

We do get lots of slugs / snails in our garden but I haven't noticed any near the tree, and I must be honest I have totally neglected any pest control (as I have never noticed any / evidence of any before:doh:).

Apart from the problem which has started in the last couple of weeks the tree is healthy, having produced a large number of apples this year.

    Hope this helps

Stroudy, you are right about the mineral deficiency, Bonemeal only encourages root growth. The plant needs Fish, Blood and Bonemeal. As for the slugs and snails, you wont see them work unless you go out after dark and catch them.:thumb:

Thanks for the help. Is it too late in the year to feed the tree now?

No, as it`s still growing give it a feed. If you are using F,B and B.. give a feed of about 4 ozs to the square yard.:thumb:
