How about a Salix 'Kilmarnock' I think that's how it's spelt.
You may think Salix? But they are enormous! But this one isn't.

Ivory, I got it as a tree (balled) it was about 5 foot when I planted it. Now its full grown. Yes it is beautiful, I enjoy it.

Don't be afraid of fast growing trees that respond well to pruning :thumb:

I have both but would take a yearly pruned paulownia over a brilliantisimum anyday.:thumb:

BTW BM, it's meant for the 'cottage' part of my garden

 

:thumb: Brilliantisimum is a lovely tree but it kind of goes off mid summer and is very susceptible to aphids and scorching:(

A better choice would be a well maintained sorbus, or even a nice Cytisus battandieri

Hi Folks. Well, we went to the GC today and managed to pick up a Cheal's Weeping as suggested by Dai. It's around 6ft or so and cost around £37 which I didn't think was too bad. It says on the label NOT to prune it, but is there any reason I couldn't take off the bit here and there ? Pic herewith. Cheers...freddy.

 

Freddy, look at that little tiny bucket its poor roots are in, it is under so much stress right now and you want to take a little off here and there, more stress. Just plant the sweet thing, next year this time stand back and see what it looks like. Then send a picture and we will discuss it first. And you know there probably is a good reason to not prune it. After all this fussing over what you want to get, if you hurt this thing I will be so crazy mad at you.
