H20,I have seen it before and was told it was possibly Pine Oak Gall Rust spores.... Remove all infected leaves and destroy them.

I tend to think its something a lot of oak trees get every year.
Pal may well be right about what it is.

I never have known what it is but I dont think it does the tree any real harm, its very widespread.

Oak trees are very sturdy and require little or no treatment generally. The main thing to watch for with an oak tree, is fungi that appears to be on the outside. Unfortunately, it isn't just on the outside....it can hollow out a sturdy oak which can become dangerous in a built up area or garden.

Other than that...they will weather any storm or insect attack.:thumb:

After all, they are British ain't they, heh, heh.:D

I found some truffles under the old Oak on our boundary, NO! they're the inedible ones (unfortunately, otherwise they would have been worth £50 an ounce according a chef friend).

I don't know about Oak being sturdy, if you mean resilliant to disease, about 30 years ago we had a problem with a lot of Oaks suddenly dying in the UK. Where I lived at the time there were quite a few Oaks that must have been several hundred years old and within 12 months they were dying like flies. It was a sad sight.

Probably due to man made pesticides or car fumes etc.

Gawd I bet that was a sight to see Terrier, all those trees dive bombing the walls only to lie on their backs wiggling their branches in the air :)

No, if you remember we had a serious drought in 1975. Trees were dying all over the place. I remember it because I was seconded to Banbury Telephone Exchange.
