Hi. I planted sunflowers late. They are 5 weeks old and are not very tall. I don't think they will flower as they are too late and itâ??s almost the end of summer. If sunflowers haven't flowered will they wait until next spring or will they die in winter? The date I posted this question is 26/8/2008. Thanks for any help.

I also planted African marigolds late as well. Will they live through winter if they have not flowered and then flower next spring?

I think you'll have to wait and see.
Chiltern Seeds say you can plant anything at any time of year as long as the conditions are right in terms of temperature. I have therefore started off some plants, e.g. rudbekias, campanulas, cheirianthus and clematis integrifolia which are nice little seedlings. I shall keep them in either the greenhouse or the coldframe over winter and see how they do. I wouldn't like to leave them outside.
