I must say, it is a funny time of year to start; but beggars can't be choosers in this day and age. If I were you I would concentrate on getting the soil ready for next year. In the coming months you could try and grow a few things - broad beans, Japanese onions, purple sprouting broccoli, etc.

Any way, well done for getting your plot. I hope you will enjoy tending it and that next year will be a better one.

You should be able to buy them pretty soon...I think I planted my crop of 100 sets last October. I had an excellent crop of huge onions. I had to chop and fresh most of them. The only problem you may encounter is that they may bolt (produce flower). I you see a flower head start, bend the flower's stem back to stop it forming. When an onion flowers it forms an hole in the centre of the onion and is no good for dry storage (hence the reason why I chopped and froze many of mine.

I'd imagine that you should be able to buy them from most garden centres or car boot sales. Try a Google search on local stockists.

    Good luck
