    HI
I know its too early really to be thinking about overwintering but i was wondering just how I should look after my colocasias in the winter.
They are in their first year,( bought as rhizomes) and at present they are marginals in my pond.
I realise that I shall have to lift them out and repot them into a well drained soil so they dont rot - or dry them out for potting up again next year but can anyone give me any other advice on how to look after them?

    Thanks!!

I just dig up and put in pots and store in the green house, then come spring they just sprout again. y black magic I keep in a pot outside in the summer then bring into the dining room for the winter and it just keeps growing!

    Hi there

I keep my colocasias as pond marginals during the summer months. When the temperature drops below 3 centigrade they simply go dormant so if left in the water will rot.

Given the poor weather I have taken the decision to remove mine from the pond this month and repot them in peat free compost to overwinter them in a greenhouse. There is no need to keep them heated, frost free is the important bit. Then resist the urge to water them as they can take the cold but not the wet in winter. The foliage will die back, so can be cut off and the single stem will then retreat towards the corm. They will sit in this dormant state quite happily resting for months, dont need to be taken indoors and continued growing excepy maybe with black majic because it really is not easy to grow at all.

Then once spring comes and weather improves they will start to show signs of life water then feed and if necessary bit of warmth then out into pond once temps have risen again.

I hope this info is helpful

Thanks so much for the advice. I too have removed mine from the pond now. I will put them in peat free compost for the winter as you advise.

    Thanks again!
