XP Still Tops

I have a Samsung R519 Notebook bought last August and it has 500GB hard drive and I find the large capacity great for storing all my photo's etc on and then Mr K backs the whole lot up on external HD plus memory sticks so if one fails hopefully the others won't:D

I had a replacement hip 11years ago, I wasn't allowed to drive for seven weeks but was allowed to start cycling 25days after the op. I have cycled over 30,000miles since then. Cycling and swimming are the best forms of excercise as you don't have your weight on the hip, so it won't wear out so quickly.

My son bought me an Acer Aspire D260A 160GB Netbook which I chose because it has XP Home :thumb:
and we had great fun setting it up yesterday. Well, they mostly do everything automatically.

Great disappointment today though when I rang the hospital to confirm they have internet available but
you can only use it via their screen. Cost is £5 for one day, £10 for 3 days and £20 for 5 days!!

So I will only be able to use my Netbook when I get back home

Going back to the XP versus Vista. I got a new desk top a couple of years ago and it is vista. I am seriously thinking of going backwards to XP. I got an external hard drive to back up my pics of which there are thousands. Vista does not let you 'copy' a file. You can only move the file which I won't do. You have to drag and drop every single pic. If you drag and drop the folder the pics appear as file names/titles but no pics. As a result my hard drive is empty.
Would any of you recommend me doing this?

I have heard that before that somebody downgraded to XP from Vista. I would
do that too.
Must be so infuriating-- you would think a newer system would be an improvement.

I was just right clicking on the files. There is copy but no copy to. How do you do it. I was sort of used to the wee letters flying through the air.

 

I looked into upgrading to Vista but then found that it doesn't have an email feature with it. How can you possibly have an operating system with no email facility? When I asked, they told me I had to buy a bit of separate software for another £200! Think I'll stick to XP, thank you very much!

It was the bad press that Vista got that caused me to jump ship to Ubuntu/Linux four years ago, I wouldn't go back. all software is free and easily downloaded from secure servers. Now I only pay for hardware and have the pick of over 30,000 items of software for free. Another bonus is that it doesn't suffer virus problems or slow-downs.

 

I only back up the files I don't want to lose. They are backed up onto external HDD's and on the cloud (which synchronises both my computers). My important emails are backed up on the IMAP server.
