Quiet month

Soooooo What should I be doing this month????

I know I have several jobs in the garden to do. one being to remove a Christmas tree that has far outgrown it's space and just has to go (although I will be sad to see it go) I also want to get rid of the privits and plant something more suitable for the space i.e. some conifers etc.

Yep this is the quiet month. What you should be doing is sitting on the patio, having a few of your fav. tipple and knowing you can relax until Sept. ENJOY

 

Gardeners madness Snappers-I am currently planning removal of said conifers and replacing with some English trees. Beech, Hawthorn, Birch and a Maple to replace the beast of a leyllandii at the far end.

 

Its a shame you were not closer claire, I could have made use of your conifers! lol

 

Snappers, unless you have acres of land, wouldn't leyllandii grow too big too quick.

We have 7 of them in our front garden (and, no I don't have acres of land) when we moved in and they were about 8/ 10 years old and 20 feet tall. the roots had already started to lift the paving slabs in the porch and the path to the front door.
cost me £300 to get them chopped down and the stumps ground out. The soil there is only just beginning to recover.

 

You most certainly would be welcome, they`d be quite a boon for someone-they are all over 15ft tall, and if you like that sort of thing very pretty and well maintained. Shame.

 

They sound Great Claire, I do not want anything too tall but something to keep prying eyes out.

 

There isn't much to do in the garden except enjoy it (in between some dreadful weather). We have spent the last week building a covered wood store behind the shed for winter. It is so nice that we have sat out in it every day! - it will be used to store garden furniture as well.
We have put wooden edging all round the veg patch. It looks loads better and means that next year we will have plenty of room to build it up with compost.
All the untidy corners have been cleared, sorted and tidied up

 

Hmmmm, I know what you mean about the weather. All week, it has been glorious but I have been at work so could not sit out in the garden then when the weekend comes and I have chance to enjoy the garden, I have to wear my rain mac!
Oh well never mind, at least the plants wont dry out.

 

Anew Lidl store has opened nearby.It has lots of cataloge tulips daffodils and many more all at 1/99.Thought I would pass a bargain on Good luck Carolla 1

 

Lots of seeds to be collected at this time, shading removed off the greenhouse and bubble wrap installed on the inside of the roof ,it still acts as a sun filter on those rare sunny days but keeps some heat in at night now the nights are getting cooler will install the bubble wrap to the side windows at the end of the month,greenhouse being thoroughly cleaned this month in preparation for winter storage of plants,just removed a section of roof on the shed and replaced it with clear corrugated plastic for extra light for winter plant storage,I now have 3 areas of storage with different temperatures the g/house which will be kept at 8-10c,the shed about 5c and the p/tunnel will be at ambient temperature the plants in there will be protected from the wind and rain,just have to work out what needs to go where,still taking cuttings and repotting,so who said there's not much to do this month.:D

 

Well, I finally took on the task of removing the Christmas tree and After a lot of hard work, I dug down and got the roots out. I've rearranged all my front garden now and alls I have left to do in there is to plant my bulbs etc.

 

I'v just putting in a new veg plot coved the area ( 10foot x 16 foot long) with old carpets ect. for the next couple of months by then rotavator should be fixed, if not have to buy wife a new pair of wellies and fork for christmas lol.

 

It has been very quiet this month, and I like cajary's idea of a few on the patio enjoying my work this year.

I have just cleared and cleaned my little greenhouse but i now have an empty side for growing now the toms have finished.I am a novice veg.grower and i know its a bit late to plant veg. seeds but is there some veg.plants i could grow that could be harvested during the Winter months.Seems a shame to leave the space vacant if i could have food from it during the coming months.
