I hope Im not going to make people aware of something they were previosly immune to, but enjoyment of my Garden is being spoilt by the increase in noisy cars and bikes in recent years. Regular trafic can hardly be heard, but there seems to be an increase in owners fitting noisy pipes to their vehicles, you can still hear them for miles after they have gone past. Weekend evenings you would think there was a race track not far away.
Im getting to the point of not wanting to be out there, in what would otherwise be such a relaxing place. :(

As far as I know vehicles are manufactured much quieter these days, so this is unacceptable noise pollution, especially in the evening
I'm currently doing some research who to complain to,
In the mean time I found this petition incase anyone else would like to sign it.

Ive got kids to left, right and bottom of my garden, so they drown out any noise the traffic might make.:D 02

It is terrible, there was once an orchard behind my house and it was predominantly farmland around us. The council in their limited wisdom gave planning permission left right and centre and I now have a "lovely" orange redrow estate where the orchard once was, traffic noise and fumes almost constantly -Ive mentioned one set of neighbours but I now have to tolerate another set who in their garden have no problem swearing-and I don`t mean the occasional bloody or even sh7t but the very worst at the top of their(her- its the woman who is responsible)voices at all times of the day or night so I often have to mention the kids can hear her and that goes down well! ( Although not as well as when I told her to clear off back to the council flats she came from-don`t anyone shout she deserved the swipe).

Its just a lack of consideration all round

The more they build and the greater the density, the bigger the problem will become.
They are now building on every tiny space possible in towns, any garden of any size is being built on around here.
The usual cry from the developers was that people need houses and the only way to lower the prices was to build more houses.
Funny thing around here now is that they cant sell them anymore.
So suddenly the developers are pulling out.:)
So maybe we dont need more houses anymore.

Or is it just that there is no money in it for the developers.:)

leo99, getting back to your point.:thumb:
I agree, it seems anything goes these days as regards motor vehicles noise pollution.

How about a new tax on excessivly noisy vehcles, food for thought Gordon, just like the one on emissions

I know which one I can put up with, noise is definitly the worst of the two around here.

    I wont sighn it.

what you sudgest would simply be yet another pointless expense to the motorist and would potentially force classics off the road. Also no doubt it would become yet another spot fine revenue raiser for the police / goverment.

    Hello Leo99
the exhaust mods are called "bean cans" - mostly fitted to 1 litre Corsas, et al , so they sound like Apollo 8 taking off. As the young uns can only afford 70bhp cars these days maybe its allowable. My gripe is ....we sit inside all winter - then - good weather ! Then blooming clapped out lawnmowers, strimmers that sound like banshees , motorised vacs to suck up one leaf. I would like to ban all power tools after 2pm on weekends, that is unless I have an urgent job to do :D

There are not enough classics on the road or driven in the same manner as a sports motorcycle.
To prove Im not anti motorist, I'm with you on classics, I used to own one and strongly suggest the MOT should be every 3 years not one (I think its 4 years in Switzerland) and lower road tax too ;)

How can leaving a vehicle in its original form be more expense to the motorist.

Its the half dead morons that fit those stupid exhust systems, with more money than sence that are causing the problem.

Likewise those really over the top sound systems, which are, in my view, dangerous, due to the fact that the driver has not got a clue as to what is happening around them, as regards emergency vehicles etc.

Probably nearly as distracting as using a mobile phone.

Pete, taken from the actual petion statement:

"Older motorcycles and modified motorcycles should be tested via the MOT test to ensure that they comply with the legislation."

This could potentially force a lot of beutifull old bikes off the road.

Agree with you regards the boy racer type backboxes.

    Ideed.

Scooters oh my... scooters. Istant shooting reflex. Thanks god I am out of my old place and moved to cow land. Only noise is "Moooo".

But I agree that cars and motor bikes arenot the only source of noise. Why must people use power tools for absolutely everithing, and I am not talking of professional gardeners, that have a schedule and must make a living, but of people with a garden the size of a kitchen table who need an army of noisy contraptions for even the smallest operation. Talk of relaxing. I remember a neighbour putting a power hedge trimmer to a scrawny single tea rose in my old place because he had lost the shears.

    Sorry Paul.
I did not read the actual petition.
As you may know I am notourious at not reading links.

I still dont think the older ones would have as much to worry about as the newer ones.

I enjoy seeing older vehicles on the road, yes they are noisy too but it's usually during the day and they are few and far between.

I've noticed there are quite a few petitions on vehicle noise, this one is not the best written.
The problem really seems to be boy racers fitting noisy pipes to their vehicles.
The irony is that they are now banned from some race tracks on fun track days, so we are stuck with them on the roads.
This is from Donnington Race Track's website, I wish people were more considerate for other home owners. http://www.donington-park.co.uk/track-days/noise-limits
Maybe overall its more peaceful living near a race circuit :(
