Oh, Peter, what a joy for me to see a typically English cottage garden. I remember seeing a picture last year (with lots of small potted seedlings ???? which we wondered where you would plant them all .... and now we know) ... this is truly beautiful.

I long to have a 5 foot plus tall Salvia .... hint, hint, hint. :)

I had a bit of bad luck with the builders in May and lost several things, including a couple of your Salvias .... I still have the 'Mystic Spires' and perhaps another is recovering. I also lost my incredible S guarantica much to my dismay. However, we went back up to the mountain hamlet where the original bit 'attached' itself to me for lunch the other week. There are new owners and I ingraciated myself by asking if I could have some cuttings (the mother plant is now at least ten foot tall, like a tree with massive stems .... should have taken a pic). I was told they didn't know what it was but I said I did and they allowed me to take cuttings. I took three which were wrapped in damp paper for me and all three have rooted.

Now, should I send you one newly rooted or grow it on and then send it?

A Real Garden. Wow! I see that you have not much space left in your patio, mine was the same in the old place! Busy green fingers :D

Many thanks to you all for your kind comments.

LoL - you are not forgotten! I also am supposed to have a pink Salvia splendens that grows to 4 or 5 feet as well, but so far it has spent more time feeding the slugs than trying to flower. S splendens is technically a perennial, but is invariably grown as an annual. So I should have some seeds. I am currently in the process of building a greenhouse. But its not a simple job as there is a huge tree root (like from an 80 foot high Beech tree) where it needs to go. When its finished I will try to overwinter some cuttings. Thank you for your kind offer of a Salvia guaranitica. I hope you will not be offended if i say no at the moment. I am sort of over Salviad currently! The reason I want a greenhouse is that I have no idea how I am going to keep all of them alive over the winter!

Roders, you put your finger on a key question that many of us must ask ourselves. Do we want a nice looking garden, or do we want a collection of interesting plants. I still haven't come to a firm conclusion yet. But having shown you some garden pictures, I have a single plant picture to show.

I am showing this because it always makes me laugh. Salvia involucra - whoever designed a flower to look like that. :D
