Rhubarb stems - poisonous in August?

    Sorry to disagree. When I was a young kid in hospital with German measles, It was served up one lunch time, with custard. I didn't like the flavour, but what clinched it was when one of the other kids threw up in his, and I have never been able to face it since then, and I am now 73, so it's unlikely that I will change my view.:D

    not a lover of rubarb....only because my Ex. used to eat it stewed and it looked unappetising but rubarb and ginger jam sounds interesting. will find the recipe and have a go at making it next year.

    If Rhubarb tasted nice, it wouldn't need ginger in it, to cover up the horrible flavour and acid:D

    I'm not a lover of rhubarb either, but I love rhubarb crumble with proper custard.:thumb:

    What's that subtle cologne she ask's? Hint of beef gravy I reply!! Its a man thing...........

    The gravy, or more properly the brown sauce:D is a taste on it's own. It's not to enhance the veg and meat. Any one of the contents of the roast dinner can be enjoyed by itself, particularly, the parsnips:D As tweeky said, you can lick the sauce off the plate afterwards, if you are of that ilk:rolleyes:
