Plant Identification

    Been here a year now and this plant shot out of the ground in the "Wild" side of our garden.
    Just wanted to give it a name, everybody asks.!

    We called it the "Triffid"

    These plants seed prolifically. If you cut down the stem in the autumn, and put it on the compost heap, you are likely to have them growing wherever you put compost. (Unless your composting technique is better than mine)

    Verbasum thlaspi if you want its Latin name. Mullein is its Englsih name and it is the food plant for the Mullein moth caterpillars, which make a dreadful mess of the plants.

    I've actually seen it growing on motorway banks along with evening primrose.
    Not sure if it was scattered seed or its just escaped, but it looks good, I think.
