    Hello,

After a trip to B&Q my hubby and kids spotted a twisted hazel and thougght it looked poorly and mum woul dbe able to save its life ( ah, lovely to have the confidence of children) trouble is I now have to rescue it.

The trunk and branches are fine, but the leaves look closed in one themselves and are drying out. I gave it a good watering and then planted and watered in, it was only last night they brought it home but my experience ( limited) tells me there should have been some change, albeit very slight.

I have clayish soil-not overly so and have given it plenty of space, and threw a couple of handfuls of gravel down before i planted. I havent fed I dont think that would be wise but I am not sure. I have zilch experience with these particular trees so I turn to you.

    Help

It's probably been a bit too late to save the leaves this year, but if the rest of the tree is ok it will hopefully flourish again next spring.

The same happened to an Acer I bought from the bargain bin at B&Q, which looked almost dead. I bought it for a couple of pounds, took it home and potted it up and it's never looked back.

Claire, leave it alone for now, don`t overwater, that could make things worse. Just keep an eye on it. They are fairly sturdy plants.:thumb:
