Ive bought an acer from wikos, and it is only tiny, but growing fast. The problem is its like a twig and just keeps growing straight up, with no side shoots. Could I possibly pinch out the top to make it grow some side shoots, without doing it any harm? cheers 02

Beneath the bark lie dormant lateral buds which will burst out as soon as the tree reaches a certain age/height/size/nutrient level. Keep it watered but not drenched and patiently wait. Removing the tip from a young growing tree will lead to infection and failure.

    It looks fine
Are you going to plant it out or in a pot?
Once it starts to broaden out you can begin to remove the bottom shoots and it will begin to look more like a small tree :)

Yes Whis4ey, Thats my plan, its doing really well. If you notice the top part is redder, thats how much it's grown, twice the height it was originally already. 02
