Pro: Looks to me to be on both the details notes, but also on the simple "pretty" label too:

    http://www.dowagro.com/uk/products/prod/forefront.htm

I had the chance to speak to a second farmer today, who I consider to be industry-aware and conscientious. He had not heard anything about it. He was most surprised that he wasn't aware. Amazing. Still only a sample size of 2, but still 100% unaware. So what awareness are Dow /farming rags etc. doing?

    Ignorance is no defence.

The info is there, clearly,on the leaflet describing the actions to be taken for manure, slurry, hay and silage managment following spraying .

If the farmer hasn't taken the time to read about the safety implications on a product that is new to him then what hope is there ?

Let's face it it's on the same page as the information telling them the best time of year to use the product and the dose rate per hectare,so as it would be a new product to them I would assume they would read this to know when to use it and how much.

If I buy any pesticides, herbicides or similar that I've never used before then I read the attached leaflet which takes about 2 minutes to see what I'm dealing with and so I know how to use it and see if there are any other things I should be aware of.(2 minutes of my time!!,then I know....simple!!)

So if any farmer say's he was unaware of the safety implications after using the product himself then he is either unbelievably ignorant, blind or lying.

I agree, there is liability with the farmer / contractor that uses it, and there are no excuses (assuming that information WAS on the label last year??)

But I remain dissapointed that it seems that the farming community are not more aware. The supply chain is complicated, and greater awareness on the recipient's side (given that they haven't seen the label) would go a long way to helping.

I have printed off the labels and the RHS article to give to stock farmers in my vicinity. Hoping for some "clean" manure in return ;)

    I've signed it.

I may be naive but I do think that far too many extremely potent chemicals are being used these days, and if one such chemical is remaining active after being sprayed, digested by a cow, excreted and rotted, then surely that's cause for concern.

Thanks Pro. I find that part scary, personally. On Dow's site is an article about their awareness / education campaign. I don't know if the article is new, or old, but it solely targets Potato farmers, who they consider to be a high-risk group. No mention of anyone else. :(
