I don't know why we don't just become the next state of the U.S. of A. and be done with it.........at least we might get a rest from Europe then! Heads or tails we lose!:(

Just going back to this 911 thing. The Americans are very good at "boxing" things up, unlike the Brits....can you remember the London Bombings.....now what was the date??

I really do think that if it had happened on the 23rd or the 17th or the 3rd of November, the date wouldn't have stuck (apart from in the memory of folks that lost family members). It did just transpire that the number 911 was the same as their emergency number...and the media were very quick in spotting that.

I have to admit that when someone says the words, nine eleven then I automatically remember the tragedy. However, if someone says the ninth of the eleventh or the ninth of November, then I don't equate it with the twin towers.

Then again, the 5th of November....takes me where it takes you.

SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH AMERICA??????? We have never had one and never will. When it comes to the crunch they don't give a sh1t about us.

At least Obama virtually said the same thing when he was over here...he avoided using the 'Special Relationship' phrase. Do we have an honest president in waiting I wonder. Would make a nice change.

    Rant over.....:)

I married my ex hubby on September 9th{911} in the year of the great drought so if we had stayed together it would have been our Silver Wedding Anniversary on the day of that awful tragedy.I should have known that date would be a bad omen:eek: Then to top it all I married Mr Kandy on the unluckiest day of the month September 13th.:D

    I still look at 911 as November 11th though:D

Agree with Tweaky-there is no special relationship-if there was they wouldnt have funded the IRA for so many years. Wonder how much money they have had since-they have been awfully quiet since then.

Well, of course, there is no "special"relationship. The only thing America worries about is money. We had to pay back the costs of the WW2 to them. When we were fighting in the Suez they backed out because of oil. We've got involvolved in a stupid war in Iraq because of oil.
I just hope this government doesn't get involved in a war in Georgia just because America is trying to secure it's oil supplies:mad:

The problem is, Cameron has gone out there to show his support for the Americans. I know there's not much point in voting but if you disagree with the government's stand, Who the hell do you vote for:confused::mad:

That's one of the problems of living in a democracy that isn't. Once you have to vote for someone to represent you, then it is no longer democratic.

My opinion is this. Which ever local councilor does the most for the inhabitants of your village, town, etc...then you vote for that person regardless of what party they belong to.

You haven't a hope in hell of influencing the people at the top, but if the people who really count, the one's lower down, if they work for you and represent your communities requirements...then that's who you vote for.:thumb:

It's made a bit easier here in Wales and so to in Scotland as we probably have a larger choice than England, as we have strong opposition parties that are neither labour liberal or conservative.:)

I'm a great believer in proportional representation.

And this system of changing leaders mid-stream without going to the country makes my blood boil...where is the democracy in that fer gawds sake.

Tweaky, that last comment you made is so true. At the moment I'm loving my local MP cos he has actually responded to me personally & offered to sort it out - never known that before!

proportional representation...think I know what you mean, has to be that way doesn't it?

    cheers

:thumb: I totally agree with your last paragraph Tweeks...!:mad: Trouble is I think Blair & Brown had it planned this way all along..!!!:mad: They daren't call an election early as they knew they would lose, as I think they will any way... It would have just meant doing it before their time was up..!!!:D I do vote for a very active local MP, Tweaks, who is excellent....:( Just a pity the rest of the party is rubbish..!!:( I am dreading the General Election...!!!! There is nobody as far as I can see....!!!:(

Well, the conservatives also did it with Thatcher and of course the liberals have done it even though not in power.

As I said above MF, if your local MP does the job for you, then you have to vote for their party really. Failing that, show your displeasure in all the big parties by voting independent or whatever.:thumb:
