    Hi,

I've got 2 very young holly , well, plants rather than trees. When I got them they had nice spiky leaves on them but the new leaves that have grown are either not very spiky or not spiky at all.

Anyone shed any light as to why this might be??

    Thanks in advance
    Kerry

Hi Kerry, I think that develops over time as each leaf matures, mine are about 8ft tall and lethal!! It`ll come.

    Hi Kerry,

As lollipop73 said you'll find that it's the very young holly leaves that stay sharp and shapely. As the leaves mature they soften and lose their sharp points.

Thanks, I've been out for a look today and they do seem to be getting pointy slowly but surely, who knew that holly leaves started out smooth then got pointy! Well, of course you guys did!!

Just wait until you come across one that has dried and fell off and without noticing it you kneel on it. Ouch!

Lollipop I have done that and yes ouch. Also be careful when weeding under a holly bush, not the first time I have stood up with a leaf stuck to my finger lol

Yep, (painful) experience has convinced me that it's the older leaves which bite hardest :D
