What does "shed recycle bin" actually do as opposed to just emptying it?

 

Thats blown my head. What?! Must be those mice they`ve sent me round the bend.

 

on windows, well mine anyway theres a recycle bin. I can just empty it but theres also an option to shred b4 I empty it ....

 

Whoa!! I didn`t know that-I`ll go and check-maybe its that security paranoia going on at the momen. Maybe if you delete sensitive info etc, it fractures the documents or such up?

 

I haven`t got that on my pc, just checked.

Erm...pass. You say you are using windows...which version are you using. That would help me answer your question. It wouldn't be Vista by any chance? :thumb:

Hi Nut.

Shred doesn't come with any windows application, so it must be another prog on your puter that is giving you this shred facility. (been looking it up for you)

However...will try to keep this in plain language. When you empty the Recycle Bin all it does is actually file away that information so that other programs don't use it or link to it...but the data is still there on your Hard Drive.

Shredding, actually overwrites the deleted data (but only once). Its a form of security, but with the right technical knowledge that data can still be retrieved, but not by the normal computer user.

I can go into further technical detail if you wish, but I don't think it's necessary yea.

Look at it this way. You empty your bin at home, but the rubbish is still around although not in your bin. However, if the contents of your bin are incinerated, then the contents take on another form yea, like ash and dust etc.
