A while a go I ordered a large bag full of pebbles from a builders merchant. it covers one corner of the garden where we are thinking of putting a companion chair on.

The thing is it appears that as well as a load of stones they also delivered a load of spiders. When you stand on the stones it looks like the ground is moving as there are that many spiders running around.

Is there anything i can do to get rid of them?

    thanks

Yes, leave them they will go by themselves. They do no harm only good and no doubt will form the foodstuff of birds and other predators aswell as being seen off by the coming winter.

You are not alone either, my garden is covered at the moment. They are pretty much everywhere. Especially when I go to pick a pepper and there is one running up my arm!!

I would just leave them alone, Yelf.
Spiders are harmless and nature will take care of itself.

Taking the thread at a slight tangent; I've noticed some massive harvest spiders getting into the house this year. Larger than in the past, makes me wonder if it's been a good year for spiders?

I know what you mean John-I have a cracking spider that is living in a pieris-it is huge and when you put your finger towards it, it doesn't scuttle off like the other smaller ones. It just sits there, I can almost sense it thinking "bring it on, I'll eat you!"

    Well, spiders are quite interesting.
A good few years ago we rented a house in Brittany for 3 months.
Every night, at the same time, a spider appeared out of a hole in the corner of the floor.
He was so regular, and so harmless, we called him Wee Jimmy.
It was interesting to watch what he did - there was nothing else to do.

In my last house I had great big spiders. They came out fighting with their boxing gloves on.
In this house I never see a spider - but I do find webs :cnfs:

If you lay conkers down in a house, you wont have any spiders in the vicinity.

The conkers work for one year only, then you have to get some new ones.

As everyone says, just leave them alone as they only do good and are completely harmless.

We also seem to have more of the giant ones in the house this year. I found the last one running around in the dining room just a few days ago, so after I photographed it, I put it outside in a bush to find a new home.

I have a spiders web outside my front door.the web is spun from a wall plant holder to a hanging basket.
when i go out for a cigarette i flick a small amount of my ash onto the web and in a flash the spider is onto the ash !!!. he/she must be a non smoker he/she knocks it off the web then quickly scurries off into the corner
of the web, awaiting a nice fat midge or a fly .

MY WIFE SAID ,I WILL NEED TO GET OUT MORE  music .
