Is it true they are actually going to backdate it to 2001?

No Claire, when they say it`s retrospective, they mean it will affect cars REGISTERED from 2001. Rather than from 2010, when changes come in. Needless to say, I`ve signed.:thumb:

:thumb: i agree Slinky.. Instead of putting this levy on car tax & penalize the innocent worker...!!!:mad:
:( Instead.. They should be working flat out to find a new & efficient engine or fuel that will suit everyone... I do not think these Bio-fuels are the way to go at all as they are produced at the expence of the farmers worldwide.. !:(

:thumb: I honestly & seriously think we are going to have to go for nuclear power & electric cars...!!!! I have looked at all they are offering & none seems to be sustainable... Where as nuclear goes on & on with the same rods...!!! No use of fossil fuels. There is the danger of explosions & terrorists yes... But.. the oil will run out soon, never mind the price...!!
 We, in this country already get most of our energy from Russia, Arab countries & europe....! We are sure gonna be stuffed soon...!!!!! They have us over a barrel...! (sorry about the pun).. So at least if we are nuclear powered we are self sufficient..!!

:thumb::thumb: I really think we have to start standing up in this country & tell the Govt that sometimes what we have to say is IMPORTANT...!!!!!

:thumb::thumb: So I thank everybody now, who signs this & takes a stand, small as it may seem it is a start..!!:)

:D:D OK everyone... Have climbed down off me soap box...!!!

    ;) Thanks everyone

    Marley..

    [serious rant]
I'm all in favour of heavily taxing gas guzzlers; how many people driving big 4x4s/Chelsea tractors could actually realistically justify them. For example what possible justification is there for a Porsche Cayenne turbo on british roads, top speed 176MPH, bluddy ridiculous vehicle. Same goes for similar BMW, Merc and Audi offerings, slap a £2000 per month road tax on them unless they can show a fully justifiable need. Not because it's the latest "must have", "the Jones have one", "it matches me handbag"

Many seem to just do a daily school run (quarter mile each way?) and the only time they go off road is when they park on the pavement. The closer you live to the school and the fewer children you have the bigger the car seems to be the ruling criterion. Living near a school we see them every day driving round and round the block looking for somewhere to park, (preferrably across someones driveway) they must travel twice the distance from home to school just trying to find a parking slot.

Don't allow anybody to sell on a new car until they've had it 5 years or done say 100,000 miles whichever comes first.

    [/serious rant]

Cheers, grumpy old f@rt. Looking for a deep bomb proof shelter.

Signed it Marley:thumb::) Mr Kandy was saying that he heard that this country sells it's Gas to foreign countries because we have no storage facilities and then when we want it back we have to buy it back off of them. How mad is that:mad:

Not sure though if he has got his facts right so would love to hear from anyone else who might know a bit more:thumb:

I've only got a mondeo and my latest tax bill which has just come in is £400 for twelve months.
God knows what it will be next year.

This is the first time I can remember road tax being more expensive than insurance.

Whether or not the policy is correct, I feel it is a step in the right direction. I agree entirely with Mike.

Mondeo....Ok, nice vehicle...could you not drive something smaller and more efficient? Lets face it....the car is on its way out as we know it. Maybe not in my lifetime, but it is destined for the great scrapyard in the sky....so we all better get used to the fact.:thumb:

We have a 53 reg Mazda 2 diesel £35 per year and an X reg Mazda Demio 1.5, £115 per year. The Demio will probably have to go, now Joyce has retired we only need one car, last year only did about 400 miles in the Demio, 600 the previous. Probably flog it in September when the Tax runs out. Before that I had a 1962 Ford Classic, £0 tax, trouble is after I turned 70 it was no longer fun crawling underneath it.

Hi Kandy, what he heard is not quite true. It has become very complicated. For example: a British gas company about 60 miles north of you has vast storage facilities. They are very deep underground and are not man-made. The system is to store the gas back in the ground where gas had originally been extracted from.

This is a very logical way of doing it as it utilises very large areas that can hold the gas safely - bearing in mind that gas had been in there for thousands/millions of years. They had been storing gas there for decades but wanted to increase their storage so had to apply for planning permission. This was objected to by some of the locals and councillors and the application was turned down.

The planning officers had pointed out to the councillors that there were no grounds for opposing the application but they turned it down anyway. Naturally the company have appealed and this can take many years and cost the local taxpayer and the company lots of money. Meanwhile we are losing the chance to store our home produced gas there. So it gets sold abroad and we have to import it again when we need it .

I won't go into the details as I have probably bored you silly already - but you did ask :D

Hi Shiney. Thanks for your detailed explanation.I am not sure where Mr Kandy heard this from it was just something he was talking about the other week with his sister. We don't buy national newspapers becuase they are always filled with rubbish and are only good for my guneia pig cage or composting:D

I have just asked him as he came into the room and he said it was on the Telly, say no more.If it was on the TV then it must be right:thumb::D

Mike if you only do that amount of miles I wouldn't have thought you would have needed a carI take it you either walk, bike of bus everywhere:thumb:

We have got a Nissan X Trail diesal and only got it because the torque for pulling our caravan with the mondeo wasn't good enough. We don't own one to keep up with anyone and after 16 years of pulling a trailer tent with a smaller car {Meastro} when we got the caravan had the mondeo.I know a lot of people hate caravans but when we had a dog and Mr Kandy was a smoker self catering cottages would take one or not the other or neither. We use a 4x4 as something we need not as a fashion statement. We are too old for that sort of thing and couldn't afford the prices that some of the youngsters in our village spend on them anyway:rolleyes::)

Now I am off to pollute the countryside:D

Hi Kandy, I'll look for the pollution drifting across as you drive south :D :D :D.

The news Mr Kandy watched was right and wrong . We do have the storage facilities but can't use them. Stupid, isn't it? :)

    have a good holiday :thumb:
