I planted four lots and they were nowhere near as good as past years. The actual blooms look small and one lot was sparse. They are one of my favourite so a bit disappointing really. I wonder if I planted them a little late.

Hi Geoff, your stall must look and smell gorgeous with your bunches of sweet peas.
    And 20' of them. Heavenly.

I wonder if the seed has anything to do with it? I grew Spencer mixed but it is a blend of named varieties, blended in the right proportions. I think some just bung the varieties in a field together and then harvest the resulting seed.
i got mine from Moles seeds and that is where i got High Scented. Now that is a real stunner. Sweet peas aint sweet peas if they aint scented and High Scent seduces the nasal passages as soon as you get anywhere near - on a warm day it even made weeding a pleasurable activity.
The sweet peas alaways sell out early on the stall so I am told -I am not allowed there cause I am a mere man. I wish my courgettes would sell as well.
Soon be time to sow for next year. October is the sowing time. this time I will not be using those narrow grow tubes. I find that when watering the water missed going down the middle. The plants were much better in square pots and the plants had more compost for rooting. I am going to try and get flowers earlier.
